Pretty powerful, reasonably quiet, nail grinder that does a good job whether you are working with a large or small dog. It comes with a comprehensive selection of bits that are marginally easy to change out. You do need to use the include wrench to change bits. I find the attached (but easily removable) guard to be mostly in the way. However, if you are new to using a powerful mechanical nail grinder it’s a good idea to keep it in place until you get the hang of it. The downside of this tool is that it’s really kind of bulky making it very challenging to maneuver in tight places, like around the legs of smaller dogs. It’s also a bit pricy at $32 for a non rechargeable tool.

This is a great quality Wahl dog nail file. I have a professional nail drill file for people and I know a quality nail file. It has replacement drill bits. We have three dogs: a Boston terrier and a puppy chihuahua and a puppy Frenchie. This file worked good for our Boston Terrier but the bits are way too big for the puppies. I think this dog nail filer would be perfect and very suitable for larger dogs like a lab or Golden Retriever. It has a cover that prevents the dog nail from getting filed down too close. It has a lot of power and comes with four AA batteries .

Our lab does not like her nails being clipped at all. This Wahl Grind & Smooth 2 Speed Battery Dog Nail Grinder with Concave Rounding Tip and Nail Guard for Increased Safety and Precise Nail Grinding – Model 3026333 is a great alternative. We found it very easy to use. She was leery at first, but after a few minutes allowed her nails to be ground down. I did find it hard to see where the quick was with the powder residue from grinding, but overall it worked very well.

I had been using a human nail drill to trim my dog’s nails, but it died so I was happy to try this one. The only complaint I have is that it can be hard to get the batteries in because they tend to go in slightly askew, preventing the next one from going in. Just a little frustrating. I like that it is cordless and simple and can be used with rechargeable batteries. The two speeds are sufficient for trimming and shaping. I was able to use my bits from another set. My dog still hates it, but it gets the job done.

The media could not be loaded.

The grinder is very similar to a Dremel tool but has a special cover for the sandpaper attachments to help with grinding nails safely. I prefer using it without the top and just being careful. It uses and includes 4 AA batteries. It also has several attachments. The low speed is very quiet and there’s also a high speed. I think it could also fit any other rotary tool attachments.

I’m not quite sure how to rate this. I was excited to get this, as I have three dogs, the youngest dog of whom has claws of steel, and dragging dogs into the vet constantly to get their nails done is not ideal. It comes in a nice, hardbound black carrying case, which is perfect if you travel with you dog. It also doesn’t require much assembly, so even if you have no skills on that front, you can be using it almost right out of the box.

Oddly, even with the switch turned to off, it refused to turn off while I was putting the batteries in. Getting the battery cap back on was a five minute endeavor — it just wouldn’t fit back on. Between that and the off switch not working, I was less than impressed to start with.

That said, it’s super quiet — quieter than any dremmel I’ve ever owned. Once the on/off switch unjammed, it became super easy to use, without a lot of extra functions that you don’t actually want or need. I didn’t want to test it on my oldest dog, who has recently become uncomfortable with her paws being touched, and my middle dog is convinced that her adoption papers did not include paws, so I should have no access to them (no matter how many times I’ve told her it was a full-dog adoption, she insists her paws are hers and hers alone, so to avoid the possibility of a snarly face, I decided to start with my youngest dog).

The grinder is set up where it’s mostly enclosed, so you can dremmel the nail without touching their paws. It’s a nice set up. My youngest dog didn’t seem phased by the noise at all. However, I attempted one nail, and perhaps because there were no treats involved, she quickly determined that she did not like the vibration. It did, however, pretty quickly grind the nail down. Unfortunately, there was an almost instantaneous burning smell that made me nervous. It seems like that shouldn’t be happening, especially since it wasn’t touching anything but one nail, and only for a few seconds. I turned it off, she left the room and that was the end of our first attempt.

I’d like to try again, as I actually think this could be a great tool, but I want to resolve the burning smell issue first. So for now, I’m giving it a neutral rating and will update if I can get this resolved.

I really like the idea of the curved cup to round out nails but maybe that and the other grinding heads would work better for larger dogs. My dog is a westie and she’s only 17 lbs so her paws are on the small side. I can not get that large grinding head to work for us because she is so tiny. it was especially impossible to get the dew claw. I wish they made the whole thing slimmer and the grinding heads and guards smaller to work better for smaller pooches, but this would be idea if you have a bigger dog.
