I’d buy it again… but I’d investigate alternatives first. My biggest complaint is the quality insurance, for months I was getting an annoying rattling when I played until I went through and checked/tightened each screw (which solved the problem).
Feels better than an acoustic violin to me. I like the controls, the weight, the universality of it (I swapped the chin rest with a rosewood which stands out more on my blue model. The tail piece is a nice quality. Fitting a shoulder rest is simple). It’s loud enough to practice without headphones and is fun to play plugged in. It served me well for the reason I initially purchased it (I was in the Navy, on a ship). Once I left the service, I sort of forgot about it for a few years and only recently dug it back out of my closet to play again. Granted, the strings are over a decade old on it now and 75% of them have held up but my D string was starting to unravel when I tuned it back up. Screws have never come loose again since my initial tightening.

Pro: The Yamaha SV-200 is exactly what i was expecting. Clear sound, feels like an acoustic one and I can practice on silence. A couple of days ago I bought a Boss ME-25 and a 15W amp and .. oh man!! what a sound. I’m totally impressed with all the features and things i can do now with this violin.
Con: A little expensive since the materials are mainly plastic.

Great product but I had to extra for planetary pegs which cost $280

The SV-200 has a nice, well-balanced sound, which I assume is from having two pickups under the bridge instead of just one. The setup of the instrument is good and it feels very similar to a regular acoustic violin. Overall, I am a little disappointed with the construction of the violin. The ebony fingerboard is about half the thickness of a regular violin. The maple “body” of the instrument is also very thin. The sides are made of plastic that is screwed into the body of the instrument. For the cost, I hope this is durable enough to last the length of the 5 year warranty.
