I liked its consistency and texture. you need an old cheese grader to return the brick to powder or a hasp. I used an old stake knife and collected enough powder to try it in Spike’s home but that was a workout. I adopted Spike at 5 years old and he is now seven. Spike scratched my forearms up the day I introduced him to the purple flower of a Milk Thistle that was growing in the yard. I did not know how strong he is, and he almost got away. I was in a hurry one day and had just come from town and I was wearing cologne, I needed to give Spike his bath because he was doing his poddy dance, anyhow he drank a ton of water which was unusual when I picked him up out of his bath he started trying to escape again like that day of the flower. Spike is a typical Dragon he is social and likes people and to be held but this bath day when I put him against my chest like normal on his towel he puked on me. he spit up all that water. I, just to see if it was a fluke. I, wore cologne one more time several weeks later and he did the same thing even though it was a different cologne. I no longer wear cologne around him. He stays in a 55-gallon terrarium where I added the Coconut haul powder and within15 minutes he started pacing his home, I was watching a movie. he usually sits and watches or paces and I let him out and He sits on my lap or the table and watches tv or he will explore, but today an hour later he is still passing so I got him out and tried to watch the movie with him but he would not sit still like normal so I put him back in his home and to my surprise he starts banging the screen on the top of his home which he has never done before. so I stopped the movie, took him to the faucet rinsed him off and put him on the counter where he stayed until I cleaned his terrarium. when I placed him back in his Terrarium we watched the rest of the movie all things back to normal. now its been several days of normal. I plan to put the stuff in a cake pan and see if he will voluntarily explore it I will try this in a month or so.

This is a lot of substrate. Was about 6 inches deep in my 75 gallon aquarium

As advertised

I keep Dubia Roaches as pets, not to feed to reptiles, and they absolutely love this substrate. Once rehydrated, it is super fluffy, sturdy enough to hold a good amount of moisture, yet light enough for my bugs to burrow underneath it. Plus, the compact, dehydrated blocks make storage easy.

Purchased this at a great price, use it for my Hermit Crabs (4). It’s easy to mix in a bucket (use very hot water) rotate and mix. I fill my tank 3 times the size of the largest crab shell for their burying needs, and this purchase was able to do that with some left over which I used for veggie seedlings.
{NOTE: Use hot water, … hot enough to kill off any white fly eggs that may be present in this soil. If one doesn’t’, … then you risk the white fly presence in your tank. This IS COMMON with all soils of this type it seems.}
This holds the moisture and humidity well, but using a heating pad it can dry out without being aware of it, as the top still remains moist. Every now and then one may need to mix the soil in the habitat while adding a spray of fresh dechlorinated water. Can also be mixed in a clean play sand mixture: 3:1 (3 parts this item, 1 part play sand). Not suggested to use sand alone, that can damage the shells, skin of the tank inhabitants.

I LOVE this soil. I had never used it before but I purchased it to use in my Russian tortoise’s enclosure. It came apart easily in water and I was surprised by the scent! It smells absolutely delicious almost like a dessert! My husband could not smell it but I have a strong sense of smell! 🙂 our tortoise loves to burrow in it!
