I am using this on a 5gallon shrimp tank. The filter is quiet and with a sponge of the intake works to keep a current. The heater is needed as this tank in near a drafty area in the winter and it keeps 5 gallons warm.

Purchased separately this kit would run $75 or more. Even for a long time aquarist this is worth jumping on. Aqueon is an established brand, and while not top of the shelf, their hang on back (HOB) filters are always reliable, quiet, and at an affordable price. This HOB was exactly what I expected and had enough space to customize what media you want to put in there instead of paying for expensive replacement cartridges. I packed this with sponge media and did away with the filter cartridge.
The heater is preset at 78 degrees which is what 90% of tropical fish enjoy. Consistency is better than accuracy when it comes to fish. The only thing to monitor is how many degrees above room temperature you want your water to be. In the winter, this heater likely won’t keep up if your room temps are in the high 60s.
The net is a perfect size for the tank. If you want to buy a fish and it can’t fit in this mini net, don’t put it in your 10-gallon.
The water treatment pack and food are a nice bonus but you will want to pick up a bottle of water conditioner eventually. However, I grabbed this because of the filter, heater, and net…can’t ever have enough of those on hand.

This is a decent starter kit for a 10 gallon aquarium. same brand as you see in petco/petsmart.
the quality of the kit is consistent with beginner kit, and “functional”.
I thought the price was a bit high for what you get though. you could buy separately and get higher quality items for cheaper. It does have the convenience factor though.

I must say that this is a really nice aquarium fish kit starter. Or should I say starter kit, lol. This came with everything that we needed for my son to have his first little goldfish moving around and swimming in their own little scuba nest haven that he set up, with some extra accessories we ordered online. I must say that it’s really nice to be able to see other species thriving and living amongst us and to see the smile on his face and the responsibility that he has with helping to clean the aquarium as well as feed the fish on time is even better. But overall, what comes along with this fish tank kit is amazing because it gets you started right off the bat with everything that you need. And I wish it would have been like this for me when I got my first fish decades ago at this point. Though I am happy that it is here now and I can only see how much smiles it brings to my children’s face and I’m very thankful for how easy and efficient this is. Everything that you need right out of the gate and very nice to maintain so far. Try one for yourself. Thank you!

This is a decent starter setup for a 10g tank or smaller, and includes most all of what you will need to get started. You could find other combinations of accessories for a similar price but it would take some time.
The filter is very basic but works well and you can put your own filter material in if you so choose, instead of buying cartridges. Some simple filter floss and a foam block work perfectly, just trim to fit. You can also put a sponge pre-filter over the intake tube to reduce the number of fry or baby shrimp that could be sucked into it.
The net is a bit short but not too bad and works fine. The heater is powerful enough at 50w but it comes preset to 78 degrees F., which is fine for the majority of use.
Overall, 4 stars!
Thank you and I hope this was helpful.

A great value pack of the essentials, a wonderful hang on back filter with adjustable outflow, the classic green net, a small submersible heater, and some fish flakes. I wouldn’t rely on the stick on thermometer, they don’t tend to be very accurate, but all in all this is a great little kit for a ten gallon tank.

Perfect starter kit for those just setting up their tanks or inheriting tanks for another friend or family member. I’ve had another one of these kits for close to 8 years and it has worked great for the duration that I’ve owned it. Time to set up another 10 gallon tank!
