D-Link WAP’s allow you change both the network SSID and password.
D-Link has great customer support.
You may need to use a PC to do the setup configuration.

Upstairs extender/extension to my current D-LINK WI-FI Unit to improve the WI-FI Range upstairs for the additional rooms. WAS getting good coverage with just my D-LINK WI-FI upstairs already! But the D-LINK AC1200 Dual Band Extender has improved my service. NO lag; very fast uploads/downloads! GREAT ITEM!

Update 1/18/2021 – A 3rd method for setup: I plugged an Ethernet cable into the Extender and my router, then I reset the Extender to factory settings by pressing the reset button with a paper clip and let it reboot. This time I got a solid green dot light indicating it was connected and ready. In my PCβs Firefox browser I entered dlinkap.local into the browserβs address window and it started the Extenderβs setup wizard. There is no password, so just hit LOG IN. In settings, I configured the wireless network name (SSID) and password for my router. When you hit SAVE, then later OK, it takes you out of the wizard. I removed the Ethernet cable and unplugged/re-plugged the Extender to reboot it. This time I got only the amber light β not connected. It would not connect to my router with WIFI You get only one shot at the setup. When you try to go back in again using an Ethernet cable it canβt find the device. You have to reset the Extender back to factory settings and go through the whole process again. Nothing I tried would enable the Extender to connect with WIFI to my Netgear AC1200 R6900 router.
WPS and SSID broadcast are disabled on my router, so I attempted manual setup of the DAP-1610 Extender. Changed iPhone’s WIFI to D-Link WIFI network and it connected, then ran D-Link WIFI app with phone 2 feet from Extender. Started setup wizard, but it could not detect Extender. Repeated whole process several times, same result. This “renewed” Extender will be going back.

This range extender works good, wifi on my phone picks it up in an rv 50 feet away from the house. The app makes it very easy to set up and get it going

Test over 2 weeks, and choose to return them.
1- The penetration of the device is not good. Only separated by a wall, the signal is weakened to 40%, the game network delay exceeds 150ms, and the game cannot be played at all. Don’t tell me it’s an AC1200, worse than my old model N300!
2- Every 2 days, both devices get stuck and fail to connect to the router and don’t automatically reconnect, both devices have to be unplugged manually. It often appears when playing games at night, which is really unbearable.

As access points these are “functional’. The range is 1/3- 1/2 of a ‘real’ access point. So if you need a quick and dirty short range access point, this will work very well. As a range extender, you get the short range mentioned above, which may be all you need to span a void – like out into the garage or someplace. Be aware that as a range extender, it will generate a second SSID. So your devices connecting to this extended range, will be connecting to a second network. Also don’t expect great performance. Gaming: no. But there’s enough bandwidth to accommodate 3 WiFi cameras without issue. A 4th camera caused lagging and latency issues.

Not as strong as expected; just okay. 2700 square foot home; wifi on small second level; extender is on first level only get two power lights not three.

Very good WiFi amplifier to extend strong signal throughout home or office
