One of the best workbooks I’ve ever seen. It is written and designed with a lot of care and taste. Printed on silky glossy paper. It includes sections on not only how to use the software but also step-by-step tutorials on complete commercial projects. It’s a bit on the expensive side but well worth the money due to its high quality.

I switched from InDesign to Affinity a few months ago. Affinity is not quite an InDesign, but it is close enough for me. So instead of paying a monthly tithe to Adobe, I now run with Affinity which has been great to work with. Like any apps, there are some idiosyncrasies and the book helps a lot and it feels old school which I like.
If you use the program and there is some process or comparable InDesign menu items that you can’t find, the manual will help.

buy this book. It’s not a manual per-se, but it will walk you through 11 projects and give you a very large sense of what you can do in Affinity Publisher.
That was extremely important for me, because, unlike with Designer and Photo, which I can *kinda* do things with, I didn’t even know how to *start* with publishing software. Zero clue. So the multitude of projects is really helpful.
Each project comes with a link to download the files that you’ll need to work on the project.
Stock-weight cards are included in the back on perforated pages.
I’m using version 2 of the software. The book is for version ~1.5. Those of us who need this book to teach us what you can do with graphic design software can still use this book without any issues. A setting here and there or a new tool that was added in v2 won’t cause any problems in that record.

I’m moving to Affinity Publisher (and Photo) after years of resistance to Adobe’s subscription model for its otherwise excellent suite. I initially resisted paying for the workbook, which costs as much as the program, but changed my mind after failing to find a good alternative. If you are the kind of person, like me, who learns best from written descriptions and step-by-step exercises, this book is for you. If you prefer video tutorials, there’s a great collection available free on the site.

I have the workbooks on Affinity Photo and Graphics suites and had to get this one. Its of the same excellent quality and layout and takes you seamlessly through the program’s applications using really good working examples. Despite their really informative videos and extensive help features, you will get something extra and unique out of learning with the workbook (i.e. while you also look at the computer screen). I am very glad its finally available and put together by a really great team.

I bought Affinity Publisher, Photo and Designer. They were half price, and cost less than the workbook so I got cheaper guides for Affinity photo and designer, but invested £39 in this tome. It is exceedingly well laid out. Clear guide to the interface followed by chapters describing tasks such as choosing and using typeface, using master pages, layout etc. However it doesn’t simply describe how to do it using Affinity Publisher, rather the book explains the conceptual and creative rationale why you would do something one way rather than another, e.g. advice to have no more than 3 typefaces for a document, or how to use whitespace to draw attention to elements.
Supporting all the instructions are lots of sample files that you can download from the website and then use as you follow the workbook. This wealth of resource and the high quality of the hardback and glossy pages easily justifies the cost of the book.
Chapters 3 to 6 contain lots of useful projects to work though. You are guided through creating documents using the resources you have downloaded (images etc). The instructions are good in that they do not say “click this button to do x or y” but rather they tell you what to do e.g. “Place the image xxxx.jpg in the frame”. This assumes you have read the section on placing images in your document. It forces you to use the techniques you learned in previous chapters and this reinforces the learning. If you don’t remember, you can go back to the detailed chapters and this will reinforce what you learned as well.
I was reluctant to buy such an expensive workbook but I am so impressed with it, I shall probably get the matching Affinity Photo and Affinity Designer workbooks as well.

I am going through this book and the tutorials and have learned a lot of stuff. Affinity Publisher is similar but not the same as InDesign (of which I was an advanced user for many years until Adobe went subscription). There are some neat ways of doing things and some things are very different. I recommend this book if you want to become very proficient with Publisher.

Questo libro è, per l’appunto, un workbook e, quindi, unisce le caratteristiche del manuale (primi capitoli) a quelle di un libro di suggerimenti con esercitazioni “passo per passo”.
Si tratta di un approfondimento e complemento dei video tutorial messi a disposizione da Affinity (che comunque guarderò) e dell’help online disponibile anche il lingua italiana.
Il libro contiene anche un link per accedere a delle risorse scaricabili per effettuare delle esercitazioni.
Consente, oltre ad imparare l’uso di Affinity, di seguire lo sviluppo di qualche progetto e gettare uno sguardo sui principi basilari del DTP.
Indispensabile per neofiti del DTP e dei relativi software; probabilmente, meno utile per chi è già un conoscitore del DTP e di Adobe Indesign (del quale Affinity raccoglie l’eredità apportando notevoli miglioramenti: è un programma nuovo, concepito in modo più moderno e funzionale; infinitamente più economico; senza pervasività ; con l’approccio customer friendly di chi ha l’entusiasmo di un nuovo progetto e l’umiltà che deriva dal non essere (ancora) il leader del mercato.
L’unico appunto è che il libro costa più del programma, probabilmente perché confezionato con carta a colori patinata di qualità e con copertina rigida (il che rende il manufatto molto pesante e abbastanza fragile).
In questo momento (25 giugno 2021) questo workbook non ha alternative editoriali: ho trovato solo un kindle book di 90 pagine che non mi convince perché temo sia una semplice sintesi parafrasata dell’help online ufficiale. Quindi, o questo workbook o niente.
Concludendo, opera indispensabile per chi, come me, preso atto dei limiti di Word per l’impaginazione dei libri, voglia affacciarsi per la prima volta al mondo del DTP e lo voglia fare attraverso la “finestra” di Affinity Publisher.
