Nice, but somewhat big, splint (36×4.3 inches”) that is definitely worth putting in your home or auto first aid kit. Made of aluminum that’s wedge between dual layers of foam, this is a durable, well-made splint that can be trimmed to fit. It is also easy to clean and re-usable.

Fits nicely into my tactical bag, but may be a little heavy for use in a hiking kit. However, since fractures are one of the most common outdoor injuries, it might be worth having anyway. I intend on buying more to put in my car, bug-out bag, and home first aid kit.

Another great SHTF item for all you preppers out there!

I hope I never have to use this splint, but it is best to be prepared. As my wife and I are both in our 60s and we still enjoying hiking in the mountains we find it good to be prepared with a small variety of first aid items.

I really like the versatility of this splint. It’s small enough to fit in a good first aid kit yet strong enough to offer good support for an arm or leg if necessary. It’s a very clever design.

This emergency splint should be a requisite item for every first aid kit. If you need one, and I hope that no one will ever need one, it will come in handy to immobilize broken limbs after an accident. It’s easy to use and supportive. There are pictures on the splint as reference on how to use it but I suggest you also watch some Youtube videos to learn how to use it properly and effectively.

I recently had to cut my splint down and use it on a child for a sprained wrist until he could be transported to the doctor. This is the replacement for that one. I cannot say enough how great these splints are. they are made of a pliable yet stiff aluminum core sandwiched between two outer pieces of foam. The splint is easy to form but provides great support. And as I mentioned they are easy to cut down to size as needed. You can even use them on pets. this one has great instructions for use printed right on the splint. I carry one of these in my car first aid kit at all times. I recommend!

I teach first aid and am familiar with the brand name product the Aid Code First Aid Splint 36″ X 4.3″ Emergency Splint for Arm Leg Broken Bones is imitating, but didn’t own any aluminum splints until now. The Aid Code product is clearly not as good as the “brand name” product – thinner, not as sturdy (therefore less versatile for non-splinting applications), and by my recollection, possibly less well padded. However at just over half the price of the brand name product, it will probably get the job done if you’re making a purchase for relatively casual use. I would not purchase this product if I were the medical director professionally responsible for a group’s safety. I recommend getting hold of product literature for the brand name product and having it on your phone so you can design a splint for a specific purpose. One tidbit I picked up from the internet is that “third-party” aluminum splints can be radioopaque whereas the brand name product is designed to allow successful xrays with the splint in place – something one might want to make an emergency room aware of if you’re transferring care.

This splint is perfect for use on large bones. It is larger and a bit bulky to carry around for first aid kits on the go or on hikes. However, it is light weight. It stores easily folded. Good construction and sturdy.

The Aid Code split is of ok quality and resembles the original name brand SAM Splint. They are the same color and made from approximately the same material, with some major differences:

The foam material is about the same thickness but the coated aluminum side is thinner on the Aid Code by 0.03 inches. This might not seem like much, but that’s more than enough to make a BIG difference in a piece of metal for strength. Standard duty aluminum fold is 0.0006 inches. That’s like adding an addition 5 sheets of foil in thickness but much stronger because it would be one solid piece. This makes a big difference in the ability to stabilize a broken bone or sprained joint. Having this would be better than having nothing, but I wouldn’t rely upon this as my go to only splint option if you have the option to use something better.

The Aid Code splint is made in China. The SAM Splint is made in the United States. If this matters to you, purchase accordingly.

The Aid Code splint materials are of unknown composition/purity. As such you can not be sure it is x-ray safe. The SAM Splint is.

As far as price, this is $9.99 and the SAM Splint is $14.15. If you absolutely can not afford the extra $4.16, this will do the job in a pinch.

Having this is better than having nothing, and if money is an issue, by all means buy it.

  8. Customer Review

This first aid splint is very rigid yet moldable and pliable. The foam outer covering seems that it would be relatively comfortable with skin contact. It is very light, does not take up much room, and therefore will be an essential part of my hiking kit, as I tend to hike along rougher trail conditions. Good value for the cost.
