As a rule, ice cream makers are pretty simple and so is this one. Basically it’s just a frozen container you pour your custard, sorbet, or other liquid into for a wonderful frozen dessert. What’s nice about this attachment is the stand mixer does all the work. If there is a downside, its you have to freeze the bowl a good 12-18 hours before using. And that requires almost a square foot of freezer space. Other than that the ice cream maker is perfect for kid’s or adult parties instead of using store-bought ice cream.

I haven’t made home made ice cream since I was a kid with that ball you fill with ice and salt and roll it around the house. This is obviously much easier and works super well! It makes a nice amount of ice cream and does it without a hitch.
The mixer attachment is plastic but it seems pretty sturdy and didn’t seem like it was flexing or anything. We have the 5.5 qt mixer that raises/lowers the bowl instead of tilting the head and it hooks right into place.
The containers it comes with could be a little better. The lid just kinda sits on top of them so it might cause premature freezer burn. We used our own container to try and mitigate that. I don’t think that this is a deal breaker since it’s not the main point of this product.
Overall I do recommend this as long as you aren’t banking on use the containers!

I’ve been contemplating getting a ice cream maker at home because all the stuff in the stores have so much preservatives and artificial flavorings. However, I didn’t want to spend a fortune on a new machine. This attachment made my day when I saw it on Amazon.
How it works is you freeze the bowl overnight, then when ready to make your ice cream, all you do is attach a couple of pieces. You attach the mixing paddle and place the frozen bowl under it. Then you pour your cream mixture into the bowl and run the Kitchen-Aid at slow speeds. It’ll start to firm up and freeze. Speed it up if you want more air whipped in or keep it slow to make a denser ice cream. It takes about 20 minutes to do and afterwards, you can place the bowl back into the freezer to tighten up the ice cream.
So simple and such a cost savings/health savings.
