It’s not a huge savings to get this motherboard with Amazon renewed. So I’m not sure it is worth the gamble even though you can return it if broken I’m sure.
First off, I’m very comfortable putting computers and servers together. I often buy used server hardware and it has all sorts of missing parts, dirt, dust, etc.
I picked up this MSI motherboard renewed and it had some thermal paste on the socket. I don’t think it was enough to be a problem, but I cleaned it out carefully with a toothpick and some rubbing alcohol on a cloth wiping the surface. Then the back of the board also had thermal paste on it even more so. Someone must have had it all over their hands when handling the board is my only thought. Again, easy to clean up, but why wasn’t it cleaned in the first place?
So I wish it would have been better cleaned. Also there was a scratch on the io armor, the aluminum which is painted black was showing the metal. I took a sharpie and made it blend in. Not a huge deal, but just the look of the board…it was more used than refurbished.
Typically with a refurb or anything off Amazon renewed I’d expect things to look as new. That’s always been my experience. Now the screws and cables were all bagged. So everything else was new and all there (unless a manual was supposed to come with it, but I downloaded the PDF, again no biggie).
…but you kinda look at it and realize for $20 savings, it’s a bit of a gamble. The product probably should have been sold as used on eBay for a bigger discount to be frank.
I’m a huge fan of reusing computer parts. Far too much in landfills. However, you are taking a bit of a gamble when doing so. You don’t know how something has been handled before.
All that said, so far the motherboard seems fine. It’s only been a day, but I expect it to be working just fine.

First off, I had the worst time getting it to work with an AMD Ryzen 5 5600g CPU. I had to remove the battery, reset the bios and flash the bios before it would see the CPU. Now that it is up and running, it is working great. I use it for retro gaming and torrent downloading. I especially like the 2 M.2 slots, loaded the OS on an NVME drive, super fast booting. So far very reliable.

Be careful with buying “renewed”. PCI_E2, PCI_E3, PCI_E4, JUSB3, and most USB 2.0 Type-A ports on rear panel not working, BIOS doesn’t even recognize a card/USB device is plugged in, no visible damage. Tried a BIOS update, chipset updates, throttling to PCI-E 3.0, and tried multiple cards. The product was ordered renewed from Amazon through seller GEEKDEAL.
