I decided on a refurbished Apple Watch series 9 in order to get the oxygen sensor as well as to save some money. I watched some YouTube how-to videos before it arrived, and this paid off well.
It arrived in the original box, but the strap had been attached-so I knew from the videos I watched that someone had at least tried it on. I was actually glad the strap was attached as that was one less thing for me to do. The charging cord was in its original sealed bag, so it was brand new.
The watch took about an hour to charge to the point that I could set it up. The set up was easy and fast. Having watched a few how-to videos before it arrived, made the set up effortless for me, and I am no techie.
From the videos I had seen I knew to check to see if the software needed updating (it did) and if the battery had the ability to charge to 100% since it was a refurbished watch. I was relieved to see that the battery could be charged to 100%. If that had not been the case, I planned to send it back during the no shipping cost to return time.
Well, I love the watch. Learning to use its basic features took little time. It’s a sophisticated watch and, with a plethora of available apps, it can help in many ways. So I keep learning more about using its many features. I bought a HeartWatch and an AutoSleep app which perfectly meet my needs. Each were under $10 for lifetime use – no subscription fees, no advertisements and they work amazingly well. Some of the other apps look questionable from their reviews. Subscription fees add up quickly, so I am avoiding all that completely without missing out on anything I want, so far.

This watch has me exercising much more than I thought I was able to, feeling better and sometimes sleeping better. I wish I had bought one sooner.
Update several weeks in: The pretty pink watch band is light and gets dirty very quickly. It is comfortable and easy to take on and off. I’m going to get a band in another color. The watch continues to work great and keeps helping me improve my fitness and sleep.

Bought it as a gift and it came in excellent condition. It took a while to charge up at first but it’s been functional ever since. No major dents or scratches and it fits great!

 EDIT: After several days between apple and t-mobile the issue was resolved. (T-Mobile had provisioned the line to only work on Pixel and Galaxy (wearOS) phones, and as such the apple watch did not work). Sadly this took a senior support engineer with tmobile to figure it out.

I updated my overall rating to 4 stars, (would have been a 5 but the seller never reached out to determine if there was anything they could do or attempt to offer assistance)

Also a bit of insight, when apple ran diagnostics the watch showed up as being purchased less than 60 days ago from Costco. So likely truely was just an open box item that the original purchaser did not like.

First off the package came in the original box. (completes with matching IMEI). The package was a little dirty like it had been sitting on a shelf for a while but otherwise good it wasn’t obviously torn or dented.

The watch was clean and scratch free and appears to be “new” as even the charge cable appears to have never been removed from the original packaging.

The phone paired well with a new iphone 15, and did its firmware update without fail.
And if this was just a Bluetooth device all would be good. But it is not it is a cellular device, and here is where the finger pointing starts.

My Carrier T-Mobile: required a call to activate the device. Rep was done in 15 min, adding the EID, and said give it a few hours to sync up. Okay no big deal. 3 hours later still no service. Call back, repeat wait till the next morning. Still no sim no connectivity. Told I have to go to the store. Go to the store, 3 hours with a very patient staff member, and supervisor support, and no progress.
Supervisor from support verified everything, we factory reset the watch multiple times and attempted to rejoin connect the device, it connects fine to the phone just no LTE connection. T-Mobile says they have to open an engineering issue but as far as they can tell the “Apple Watch” is not REQUESTING the eSIM. they believe the issue is a defective watch.

Unfortunately it appears no one is either able to or knows how to run a diagnostic on the device to determine if it is defective device or a provider issue. And as it was not purchased via T-Mobile they do not want to spend much more time looking in to the issue. And as its a refurbished unit there is no “Apple Care” and Apple wont look at it.

Waiting for response from T-Mobile Engineering (told 2 days max), and if they come back and say it is not our network, and it is the device, this will have to be returned.

I do not want to say for sure the device is defective (as all signs indicate it was only an open box model) but at the end of the day, if it does not connect to the network and can not get an eSIM then its is defective’

I don’t use cellular much, it wasn’t working perfectly to be honest when not on WiFi—but I’m not sure I’d this is how they work or because I bought it renewed. :/ Away from my phone and on the network I couldn’t search very well on the internet. Disappointing, but the watch looks good.
