This is a somewhat unique type of USB hub but it’s designed pretty well.
No, it’s not a full USB-C dock with video, Ethernet, audio, etc. It just adds 3 downstream A ports, but the clever part is that it can either take power from the USB host device, or from an external PD source, and in the latter case it will also provide power to the USB host. That means you can connect it to a USB-C-powered laptop or smartphone either using its own battery to power the USB ports, or charging it from an external power supply, so it’s kind of a minimalist dock if all you need is extra USB ports. And it’s about as small as it can be.
The one quirk is that it can’t hot swap external power without resetting the entire hub, so you have to decide which power source you want to use before you start connecting anything.
I don’t use it very often but I just order a second one since it is very useful sometimes, and you never know if something will still be available when you need another one.

after connecting the product, i was amazed by usb speeds. i am getting full usb 3.0 speeds with all my usb drives.

This thing is fine. Nice that it is aluminium but the plastic guts kind of slid out, was easy to clip back together. I bought this to add some more USB 3 ports to my Intel Computestick m3. While the power pass through worked the USB3 ports did not. Pretty disappointed because other devices like the Alogic travel dock to fully work. This device did work as advertised with my XPS15 albeit with low charge rates so perhaps just an incompatibility with the Computestick. I guess I’ll need to buy another Alogic travel dock then. Disapointed.

Was looking for a low cost USB-C hub with a power delivery socket for my Chromecast with Google TV. Needed a hub so I could use an existing USB 3.0 AX88179 Gigabit adapter I had. Looked at reviews and specs listing Chrome OS and Nintendo Switch support so chances looked very high that it would work with the Chromecast. Plugged hub in to the stock Chromecast USB C power and Chromecast booted like normal and connected to the internet via wired ethernet. Very pleased with this hub so far!

This is a great USB hub that can also do power delivery through USB-C for most ultralight laptop especially considering nowadays most of them do not have many inputs available. This will increase your port availability by 3 USB 3.0 inputs.
The quality of this item is actually quite high; the exterior material is made of milled metal (I believe aluminum) and it is one piece. Then the plugs front/rear plates are plastic, which means when you plug items in, you won’t scratch the metal. At the same time, even though it is mostly made of metal, it is quite light weight and built well if you want to take it traveling.
I think best use case is for laptops like macbook air or mac mini where you have limited amount of USB A slots, but have available USB C slots. Since most devices aside from mobile are still using USB A, this comes in pretty handy.

This is a fantastic alternative to the “Do Everything” USB hubs out there today which are really closer related to docking stations than a basic USB hub. No, I don’t want a giant monstrosity hanging off the side of my laptop that has multiple HDMI ports, an ethernet port, plus all the active circuity inside to operate those things while I’m using a laptop out in the field or in the garage.

I recently made the switch to a laptop that has no USB-A ports at all; It’s strictly USB-C. The laptop is used for programming two-way radio equipment in the field, which includes radios mounted in vehicles. Most of the cables I use are not available in USB-C, so an adapter in necessary. I initially tried one of those multi-purpose USB-C hubs that has all kinds of extra crap in them, but I didn’t like the giant device hanging from the computer’s USB port while moving around. The device would occasionally tug on the USB port enough to cause intermittent connectivity connectivity issues. The video device would mount and unmount repeatedly in windows and would sometimes cause odd video artifacts when doing so.

I went out and bought this small USB-C to USB-A hub and love it. It weighs only 45 grams, so less than half compared to the old one. When you plug it in, windows isn’t adding ethernet and video devices that I don’t need. You get 3 USB-A 3.0 ports to plug in any USB-A devies and that’s it. If you happen to have a power hungry USB device, you can use the extra USB-C port as a power input to let the hub be powered from an external source. That USB-C port is not for data, so if you have any USB-C devices, don’t try to plug them in to that port, it won’t work.

If you need some extra USB-A ports on a machine that has USB-C, but nothing else, this lightweight, minimalist USB hub might be just what you’re looking for. I would absolutely buy another one. I’ve used other Atolla products in the past as well, and have had good luck with all of them.

Atolla reached out to me after the review and offered to refund part of my purchase price in order that I may buy a charging cord and charging block. I was very impressed with their offer and attempt to correct my concerns. The charging block is well made aluminum and data transfer is very fast with the USB3.0 slot. If you need a small compact hub for travel, this is a great option. If you want one strictly for desktop use, Atolla has several other larger excellent options (I own one) that may work better for you. Overall, Atolla is a responsive quality company.
The photo’s on the Amazon website show this Hub with a power cord attached to AC power. When you receive the Hub it has a slot for attaching a power cord but the cord is not provided. You need to buy the power cord and charging block on your own. That increases the cost of this device significantly. Also, the wire is too short which makes accessing the two USB 3.0 slots on the back very difficult to access. The two slots in the front are easily accessible. The Hub is well made and appears to be very sturdy. Wish Atolla had put the 2 USB 3.0 slots on the top of the device instead of the back of the device.

plugs in to the power jack on the laptop and then the power cord plugs into the unit. Didn’t even lose the the one existing UPC – just gained three more for a total of four if needed. Great for an extra screen, mouse, etc.

The hub is excellent, but there’s a catch. In order for the hub to perform data transfer and charge simultaneously on my new Android USB OTG capable phone, I must follow the following steps; 1. connect the peripheral/accessory to the hub, 2. connect power supply cable to the hub, 3. connect hub to the phone. The device is missing instructions and I strongly encourage the seller to fix this oversight. I almost returned this great hub but figured it out at the last minute. I hope this helps someone.
