SEPT 9TH 2022 UPDATE
Wow….can’t believe its been almost 10 years since i wrote this review. I’m now looking for an alarm system for my son’s car, as he wants a remote start option like i have for mine.
Well, let me start off by saying that my alarm system is still going good. Sometimes, i have to hit the UNLOCK button twice to get them to open, and the other problem is the remote with the LCD display drains batteries really fast, and the volume of the beeps is really low. I probably got it wet at some point, but it still works.
It’s really surprising to have an alarm system last this many years, but i think the fact that i soldered ALL my connections into the wiring of the vehicle, has kept those splices from getting weak from vibration, moisture, or corrosion. I can’t tell you how many hack-job alarm systems I’ve pulled out of vehicles that were causing weird electrical issues. Scotch-Locks and electrical tape are not the proper way to connect wires together.
So, is this still a good alarm? You bet it is. Just do it right, and it’ll keep you from having headaches later on down the line.
I bought this to install in my project car. Having 16 years of automotive repair under my belt, I figured I cold tackle this on my own. Let me tell you….automotive work and alarm installing are 2 totally different animals. I was lucky to have access to vehicle wiring diagrams, but that’s only because I work at a repair shop. I went to a website called the12volt. com, and everyone there was more than happy to help me. It took me about 2 weeks to install, but I only worked on it a few hours after coming home from my job. I made all the necessary connections, and made sure everything worked. Then I removed EVERYTHING and bundled the wires into one nice and neat package. After that, it was just a matter of soldering all my connections together. Some of the wires are not necessary, and once you figure out which wires you don’t need, it makes everything a little easier.
The remote start works great, and I got the module to roll the front windows up or down. If you got the time, and you got the tools, then I say Go For It. If your a little unsure about cutting in your vehicles wiring or knowing what to splice into, then you better not try this at home. You can easily cost yourself hundreds, if not thousands of dollars in a repair bill if you don’t know what your doing.
A great alarm at a great price. Just know what you’ll be getting yourself into before you buy.

I’ve ordered (2) of these alarms and am very happy with them. I had them professionally installed so I cannot comment on the ease of install, only on the functionality and usage once installed. My particular alarm/remote starts have 1-way remotes. If you are not familiar with the difference, you will want to understand before you purchase. A 1-way remote is your standard remote control that comes with nearly every new vehicle now. You click the remote as you are walking up to your vehicle and the car will beep or chirp confirming it has received the signal to unlock your doors, pop the trunk, etc. A 2-way remote works by giving you a response on the remote control via an LCD screen letting you know the vehicle received the unlock/start/trunk release command, without having to be within ear shot of the vehicle. This is extremely useful for starting your vehicle to warm it up or cool it off (depending upon your geographic region). Most 2-way remote systems have a very long range (1-mile line of site or farther). This is great because as you are in line at the grocery store you can click your remote command and know right away if your vehicle received the signal. 1-way remotes have far less range and require you to either see (flashing lights) or hear (beeping/horn response) as you approach the vehicle.
I knew these were 1-way remote start alarms but knew they would be adequate for my teenage sons. Both of the installed vehicles already had power door locks and power trunk releases. Therefore, the disarm command on the remote will unlock the power doors. The trunk release also works as expected. The remote start feature is fantastic for the miserably hot AZ summer months which somehow run from May through Oct. Having the AC blowing before you actually get in the vehicle is definitely a must-have. You can start the vehicle as you approach without having to disarm/unlock the doors before you are ready. One thing to note, the default unlock option for the newer alarm is to use the progressive unlock feature. This unlocks the driver side door on the first disarm/unlock command and will unlock the other doors if the unlock button is pressed again within 20 seconds. If you don’t want this progressive unlock feature and would rather have all the doors unlock on the first press, make sure tell your installer before they do the work. There is no re-learn for this feature after install. It’s a hard-wired configuration. Overall, I’m very happy with this alarm/remote start that costs less than $80. A+ in my opinion.
