BBTac M83 Electric Airsoft Gun Tactical Package

I usually only review products I’ve bought when I’m bored at work and amazon send an email, but I wanted to review this because of all the negative reviews in hopes to clarify some complaints.

This is not a child’s toy, nor is it a competition grade airsoft gun. I’ll address why it’s not for kids first.

For a pre-teen/teenager that respects gun safety it’s fine. But not only is it delicately built (as far as kid abuse goes, it’s quite well made when handled properly) it’s much too powerful for a child to wield carelessly. It advertises at 250fps with .12g bbs but so does my walther ppq pistol and this is much more powerful than that. A child could hurt them self or others (people and animals). I originally purchased this to deter possums and stray cats from my porch and after injuring a possum more than I intended it will no longer be used for that purpose. As I said, it’s well made, but it’s still plastic, so any drop could break off any barrel extension or stock.

As for competition grade, it’s not feasible. After a lot of hop-up adjustments it’s really only accurate to about 20ft and that’s pushing it with .20g bbs. The magazine only holds 40 rounds and is not fun to load. I purchased additional magazines but it’s still not enough to take into competition, especially with how timely it can be to reload. If you’re looking for an auto airsoft gun for war games, you’re gonna have to spend a little more money.

A few additional cons before I get to the pros.
The barrel extension on mine had a slight bow causing increased inaccuracy. The silencer however is perfectly straight and adds a little accuracy. So it works out.
The flashlight is not nearly powerful enough to be useful on a rifle. It may be that the batteries that came with it are weak and need replacing but I chose to mount an LED cree flashlight instead. However, since all the accessories are picatinny, I was able to mount the flashlight on my Berreta.
The battery is NiCd and the charger doesn’t have an over charge protection and the instructions came with no charging suggestions. I’ve only had the unit for about a week, but with my experience with other such batteries (a series of six AA types) I suggest about 4 hours. Since it’s nicd there is a potential for memory charge so I also suggest fully discharging it before recharging (at least at first).

Now for the pros:
It’s cheap!!! Seriously, for less than $60 you get a full size m16 replica that’s fully and semi automatic. Tons of accessories, (even if some are subpar) — battery, charger, red dot sight, flashlight, two barrel extensions, “speed” loader (better than pushing them in by hand), extendable stock, strap (although I suggest upgrading). If you want something cheap and fun to play with just to shoot cans or deter vermin (please do it from a distance, if you’re too close it really does damage, lesson learned) this is your guy. It also comes with a bag of bbs to get you started (I already had .20g seamless bbs and preferred them for accuracy but while what comes with it seems to be .12g they too are seamless and are not likely to bust and jam)
Additional items such as a secondary battery and additional magazines are also cheap. I got a second battery for around $8 and a set of two magazines for less than $10.
For its price, it really is well made. Yes, if you drop it even a foot on a barrel extension it’s going to break off; it’s plastic. But the parts that matter are metal. You wouldn’t drop a real m16 so just don’t drop this one either.
Picatinny rails. Everywhere. There is no accessory you cannot attach to this. While weaver attachments always fit picatinny the reverse is not always true. But these are true picatinny.
The battery seems pretty decent. I’ve only had it a week but using it about 30min – hour every day I just had to recharge yesterday. And there was one night I put it through the ringer while I was adjusting the hop-up.

Conclusion, you get what you pay for. I wouldn’t take it into a competition. But it’s fun as hell. Some other reviews have complained of jamming. In the week (and around 2500 rounds) I’ve had it I have not experienced it. There have been just a few occasions that I fire and nothing comes out, but that’s pretty typical of spring powered guns; if the bb isn’t in front of the spring it won’t eject. On the next trigger pull everything is fine. I suspect other’s jamming issues come from using cheap bbs that have seams (which tend to break in pressure and then send small pieces in places they shouldn’t be).

I highly suggest seamless, competition grade .20g bbs. If you’re looking for extra distance you can use .12g, but you’ll have to fidget with the hop-up to stop them from soaring straight up after 10ft.

Lastly, if you plan on using this in your yard, I would also consider using biodegradable bbs (I unfortunately did not but now have some ordered). In the past week I’ve probably spent nearly 2500 bbs. And while I thought they would just disappear into the grass, you can definitely see them.
