I was very surprized at the size of this product which I am otherwise familiar with and have used for years. My original review was not allowed as it may have used a word that rhymed with pram. Please read the description very very carefully.

Product was great and very fast shipping. Still there were pieces of dog food in the box it had been shipped in because they obviously had treated the box like it had been in a Rugby game. The bag had actual holes in it from the box being mistreated. Aside from that it was a great experience.

My black lab has a chicken allergy and I had been feeding him Purina Pro Sensitive Stomach and Skin salmon food, which ranges from $71-$77 dollars for a 30 pound bag. He was tolerating that well until Purina started putting chicken meal in it and that immediately started diarrhea and soft stools in him.

I switched him to this food and he likes it. No more diarrhea or soft stools. I only wish you made this in a larger kibble for large dogs – he’s 85 pounds and this kibble size is more suitable for a smaller dog.

Still, it accomplishes getting any trace of chicken out of his diet, it’s economical and he truly likes it. Will continue to purchase.

I would of given 5 stars but here’s the deal. I changed my dogs (5 dogs, of all different breeds and ages) food from Rachel ray to Canidae. They were at the end of the bag and then my daughter’s boyfriend took our big dog to the mountain for a hike. (was in the higher temps and I personally wouldn’t of taken her up there because of the temp, but you know kids…..they know more then us any day of the week ) Anyway, that dog was eating and acting ok til later that night. She started throwing up and wasn’t playing around at all. (only 2 and she is usually playing all day) Then in the morning of the next day I noticed diarrhea and more vomit. I got very concerned and took her to the vet. (rest of the dogs were acting ok.) The vet looked her over and said it could be the food. (Which didn’t make sense to me because they had gone thru 40lbs of a 44lbs bag already) I let the vet know about the trip to the mountain and he said well it would be rare that it is stomach flu, but could be. Sent me home to watch her and to allow lots of water and rest. (temps were reaching way over the 100 mark) Next day the youngest dog (7 months old) started vomiting and diarrhea as well and the first dog wasn’t eating and playing at all still. Did more research and read lots of articles for about 4 hours. Came up with the biggest dog had to of caught the stomach flu, but still had doubts. The following day two of the middle size dogs started. Which one of them was on steroids for SLO and figured that is why he was still eating a little. I had to take in the other one because he is the oldest and is 9 and had many problems when he came to our home. I got blood work done pancreatitis test and left out the x-ray because I didn’t think this had to do with something that got stuck in him. Plus he was getting dehydrated so they gave him a IV pack, we waited there for the test results to know where to go from there. Everything came back normal. The doctors had no idea what the problem was. By this time the two first dogs were drinking water and still were not interested in eating. Next day had to take the same dog back to the vet to get more fluids and they gave me anti-vomit meds and Peptic AC. My littlest dog was not showing any signs. Still normal with eating and playing. I started thinking it was the dog food so I went to basic’s for their food. Chicken breast (organic, no salt, any additives at all) and mixing it in with their dog food. They ate around the dog food and ate the chicken. (and the chicken was grated) Next day I added carrots (cooked) with the chicken (grated together) still with the dog food. They TRIED to eat around it but they did get some of the dog food. Now the three of the four had come out of it and the littlest started with the symptoms. They got tired of the chicken by the fourth day and I changed over to ground beef and still mixed in the carrots and one day added 2 cups of rice for carbs. I had to start grating the moisten dog food into the mix because I knew they need their vitamin value. After I notice that the last (littlest dog) dog was done with vomiting, stopped all except the dog food (comes dry and I add hot water to moisten). Now it’s been 2 1/2 weeks since the first dog showed symptoms and all the dogs SEEM to be ok, except the oldest dog that is pickier then hell and eats only a little a day. (which I think has to do with it being sooooo flippin hot out). Here’s the thing…….No one knows why or what happen. And everyone has opinions like everyone has A**@#$%, but I have no idea if this is from the old bag of food or the stomach flu……what I do know is I wanted my dogs on what seemed to be the best dog food out there and so I changed. Now this all could be coincidence that the dogs got stomach flu at the same time we got to the end of a bag or it is from the food. If in fact anything happens to my dogs in the time frame of this end of the bag of food, I’ll definitely know and will be making an update on my review.

I bought this food in hopes my dog Sage would like it. She was previously on Purina which isn’t the best food brand. I did a ton of research and deciding which food would be best for her and not 100$. I found Canidae and I decided to give it a try- I was nervous that I would be wasting $70 on a bag of food that she hated. But nope I was wrong! Sage loves this food and it’s only $70 and a big bag! I would love if they came out with more flavors and bag sizes like a 45lbs bag. The pictures are sage before and after being on Canidae! She is so much shinier and her weight is healthy she also has grown more hair and seems to be more energetic! Occasionally I add fish oil as a topper on her food or eggs but this food is so good that most of the time she will eat it without toppings and even gets full! She hated Purina but loves Canidae! I’m now buying a second 40oz bag. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND CANIDAE!!!!!

Bought thos product when it was on sale for the same price I usually purchase my dog food for. This was three protein sources, including omegas and no grain, etc. My dogs ate less than the other food. It kept them full longer and with the price difference being almost $15. More than the other food I think it’s worth it and will actually be saving money in the long run. Will continue to use this food.
