I just received this today and have played it for about 3 hours. This is the best violin I’ve owned so far however, there are a few things that I am not satisfied with. The bow came with most hairs broken(Resolved) The rosin isn’t the greatest and the back is missing some paint. Overall this is a great deal for the price, pegs don’t slip and it stays in tune well and suits beginners/intermediates well. I would suggest buying new strings too! I recommend prelude medium tension π

The yellow maple finish allows the grain of the maple wood to show through and it looks great. The bridge, ebony fingerboard, tailpiece and ebony pegs were all properly set up. I changed the strings to Dominant and that greatly improved the sound. The PHONE output never worked. The MIC output is perfect for my amp. The LINE OUT output is OK for headphones but the sound is weak. The battery was dead so I used a new battery. The bow seems adequate but I am using my own bow. The case is OK except that the zipper tabs all broke off. I replaced them with cable ties which work great.

I actually play this more than any of my acoustic violins. A beginner would benefit from the ease of playability and dampened sound, however I do notice a very slight rattling noise when I play an A on the E string… but It’s probably just a setup issue. As a bonus, due to it’s many effects, It’s a lot of fun playing this through a Line 6 Spider IV guitar amp!

Complete beginner here. I have always wanted to learn the violin, and I have to start saying that this video review inspired me to purchase the Cecilio violin…very informative review by a professional, I strongly suggest watching it.

Right out of the box, it came with strings, a bow, rosin, headphones, and a cable for an amp. Several reviews I’ve read say that the quality of the instrument is surprisingly good with the exception of the strings, and I must agree with this. So with that in mind, I took mine to my friend at the music store who put on fresh strings and tuned it up for me. With the exception of putting on new strings, the instrument was ready to play right out of the box, it must only be tuned/bow rosined. While off/not plugged in, it’s very quiet and it sounds somewhat dull. But like any electric instrument, once I put my headphones in and turned the violin on, it gave me a strong and full sound that sounds pretty true to that of an acoustic violin. There is a volume knob on the underside as well as a “tone” knob which creates a softer/smoother sound or a sharper/crisp sound depending on taste. There is a headphones and line-out jack to plug in for practice or performance, and all the instrument needs is a 9V battery (included!). My roommate in the next room over says he could barely hear me play, but through my headphones I had a full clear sound so I can hear myself. This is a huge perk for me because I also play the saxophone, and often my roommates/neighbors would hear me practicing.
Though I am not a professional, this violin seems to be in great condition and is a very cool looking, cost effective beginner/intermediate option for those willing to learn. I highly recommend it!

I’m a new player. Everything sounds scratchy and terrible until I actually get comfortable with the song. Directly into headphones or speakers, I miss the sound that reverberates out of the body of the acoustic violin. But this is an electric violin, so when it is plugged into electric guitar amps and accessories, it can make music unlike anything that can be made with an acoustic violin alone.
It takes a lot of getting used to because the sound is so different and it comes from different directions.
I initially ordered it so I can practice at 4 am when I get up. However, it is still way too loud to do that with the family asleep in a nearby room.
That being said, during the day, when there are other noises about, I can practice in the next room and not disturb those watching TV or listening to music. Sometimes I can practice and after putting it up get reminded to do my practice.
The headphones that come with it suck. I got some good ones that cover the ears and keep out noise so my practice is not disturbed by surrounding sounds.
I love it. But it took some getting used to. I find it is better not to learn new songs on it, but to practice songs I already know. The sound is different than the acoustic violin, but much better when combined with the right amp and accessories.
Ugly giant bag of mostly water –
Very hard to tune, the strings do not ‘lock’ into place so they immediately come loose.
Sarah –
Exactly what I expected from reading the other reviews. No dissapointing surprises.
Kansas Crane –
Real wood. Great for a beginner. Fun to use with guitar pedals.
Riven –
I’m a beginner in my late 30s. Somebody told me I was too old when I was in my late 20s to play so I never tried. Until now. I just wanted to see for myself and I’m glad I did. And I’m glad this little violin was is along for the journey. I can’t tell the difference between this and a Stradivarius as far as the sound. But I can tell you the first time I played twinkle twinkle little star on this violin made me cry. It’s the best purchase I’ve ever made. This violin was easy to learn and is very forgiving. I did break an E string so you may wanna grab some extras. You get so much with this set. I think it’s perfect for a beginner. It’s perfect for me. And I’m enjoying learning with it.
Everything this violin comes with is fairly decent. The rosin works though I bought extras just in case I break this and different types to experiment with, I’m not afraid to make marks and put notes where my first, second, third, and fourth fingers should go since this is an “inexpensive” (relatively speaking) violin. It’s easy to upgrade things on this violin. I added a shoulder pad and replaced the chin rest with a center chin rest. I upgraded the bow, though the one it came with also works and I still use that one as well. The case it comes with is so useful and holds a lot.
Its style is quirky and somewhat contemporary. And I love that the body is black sparkle paint. This violin was made for me. And it’s made for you too. Don’t let anybody tell you that you’re too old to play. Life is too short for what-ifs.
