Brobert McPobertson –
[Baritone] I put these Strings on an old, tired Favilla and to my surprise, it outshone my Kamaka. I restrung the Kamaka with the same and I have to say, it sounds very nice.
Differences in instruments aside, these strings have helped to improve volume greatly for both. They are just a pinch thinner than the strings they replaced on both instruments. This is a good thing for resonance and sustain, but be aware that you may have to raise your action a tad to compensate for buzzing.
Overall, very satisfied.
Carson Allard –
Well balanced and warm tone. Stays in tune reasonably well.

So strings are often very subjective, and I am a novice with ukulele’s, but I’ve had three different brands of strings on my Baritone Uke, and I’m sticking with Aquila for now. They have a richer, nicer tone to my ear, and I simply enjoy them more.
T. R. Smith –
Aquila strings have, for the last decade or so, been the standard ukulele string supplied with the majority of decent starter ukuleles to many of the high-end instruments sold today. There are LOTS of choices in ukulele strings and personal preference is the only real benchmark for advanced players. But if you are in the first year or two of playing and need new strings, these are probably what your instrument came with. I’ve been playing for 30+m years and these are still my favorites. They feel, sound and play most like the natural sheep gut strings used during the first half of the 20th century.
Note that the baritone sets and some others use wound bass strings. These tend to wear out quickly. Aquila offers individual strings because of this so you don’t have to change out all the strings just because one wears.
Scott Totten –
I’ve heard a lot about these strings – I just strung up my Bari Uke and while the plain strings are fine, the wound strings seem way too thin. The D string in particular is very loose and buzzy. So I swapped it out with a much thicker La Bella 3rd I had lying around. I won’t buy these again.

Ryan Belsher –
Was recommended these, so for the price, I decided to give them a shot. Overall very happy with them. They hold tune well and have a great tone to them
Robin –
These are the best strings so far on my quest to find the best baritone strings. The low D and G strings have a bright, sustained tone. They still wear off at the frets just like pretty much all baritone strings do, but they last longer than the Martin strings. The high “nylgut” strings feel smooth and natural, are a joy to play on, and stay in tune. I am giving these a 4 instead of 5 because I’m still hoping there are better strings somewhere out there. But if you’re at least a little interested in making beautiful sounds come out of your uke, then you should try these out. They’re a little pricey, but worth it in my opinion, especially since they last a little longer than cheaper strings.

So I was all _tied_ up with yet another _threadful_ day of paperwork when my _knotty_ boy brought in the mail… and to my delight (and yours because my string puns end here), my order of Aquila 21U Baritone Ukulele arrived a month early!! Amazon had indicated that there were only 3 left in stock and it would take over a month to arrive at our doorstep from Italy, so it was a lovely surprise to get my order within a week 🙂 Bravo Amazon for the super speedy shipping from the land of pizza and spaghetti.
As you all know… a string, I mean, a thing… of beauty is a joy forever, so here’s a picture of the opened package for those of you baritone ukulele players out there who are assuming that all 4 strings come in your typical white Nylgut material. As you can see, the Aquila 21U strings come in a package of two wound bass strings (D & G aka Strings 4 & 3) and 2 Nylgut treble strings (B & E aka Strings 2 and 1). The packaging is professional and colour-coded accordingly, so no worries about installation mix up there!
Since I can remember, I’ve got these trusty strings strung up on my baritone uke and purchased these as spares since wound strings don’t last as long as Nylguts and seem to have a tendency to snap after a few months of rigorous daily playing. It’s just the nature of wound strings though YMMV as I fingerpick and strum with long nails on my right hand so maybe yours may last longer.
TLDR: If you’re a discerning ukulele player looking for decent baritone strings on a budget, these Aquila 21U strings are hard to beat, especially since they’re cheaper here (with free shipping) than anywhere else. Well recommended 🙂

My favorite uke strings.

I’ve tried quite a few, and these take the cake. There are strings that last longer, but Nylgut is still more sturdy than most. The sound quality is fantastic. though. I have a very versatile play style. I like harmonics, tapping, fingerstyle, strumming, hand percussion and more. I find they are at their best with soft and slow fingerstyle, but they can do it all.
