As a retired soldier, I liked the fact that this was patterned after the M4, and thus very familiar to me. I wanted a pump gun, as break-barrels are hard to keep accurate, and CO2 requires a lot of cartridges. Although it is mostly plastic, it seems very sturdy. I’ve shot a couple hundred pellets and BBs through it with no mechanical problems. To replicate the guns I used in the Army, I mounted the carry handle and front post sight, and found the sights easy to use and zero. The pump action is fairly easy, and the trigger pull is reasonably light. The pellet clips are easy to load, but the indexing once they are in the rifle is not very exact; you have to feel the stops as the clip is pushed through the breech for each pellet. There are no visual cues to help position the clip, nor can you see the pellets as they are being loaded, despite what the instructions say. Once you get used to the clip feed, however, it becomes second nature, and works every time. Using pellets and a home-made pellet catcher, I zeroed the weapon and found I was able to get a one-inch group at 30 feet with ease. The sights hold the zero, and the rifle is consistently accurate–with pellets. Not so much with BBs. You’ll need a small funnel to load the BBs into the main chamber, then shake and twist the gun barrel-down to load the BBs into the feed channel. It all works, but seems pointless due to the poor accuracy. I knew that BBs are inherently less accurate than pellets, but was surprised at the degree of inaccuracy. As I said, with pellets I can easily get one-inch groups at 30 feet, but with BBs I’m lucky to get a ten-inch group. I tried two different brands of BBs, with similar results, so now I only shoot pellets. My rifle came with three pellet clips, and I purchased four more, so I can load them all up and then shoot uninterrupted for a while. Except for the problem with BBs, I really like this rifle, and spend a lot of time in the back yard shooting targets. I’m thinking about getting an inexpensive scope sight for it, as my aging eyes and glasses make getting a good sight picture though the peep sight a little difficult. Then I’ll take it out into the country to see how it works at longer ranges. As other reviewers have noted, the picatinny rails under the front sight and on the bottom of the forearm are pretty much useless because anything mounted there would interfere with the pumping action, but so what? It’s an air rifle, people, so mounting laser sights and flashlights is overkill.

This little gun is extremely accurate right out of box. I bought this because I love to shoot but ammunition has gotten very expensive and hard to get (thanks obuma, biden and finstein). If you buy bbs in the 6000 pack it only costs .025 cent per shot.Thats 4 shots for a penny! This is powerful as it will go thru an aluminum can at 30 feet. I dont have to go to range to shoot….its quiet enogh yo shoot in my back yard, If yo make a bb trap…you can re use your ammo.

This is second Crosman M4-177 we have purchased (we have one all black) and they are solid and shoot great. With a little work the sights were right on. Three pumps is sufficient for plinking targets and 10 pumps is plenty of power for small varmints with the right pellets. Crosman has great customer service by the way!
When we got the Gun it was missing the pellet clip and the front sight pin, after dealing with the seller for several days they issued a partial refund for the missing parts. I went ahead and purchased a scope to mount to the rails and it works great!

I bought this bb gun for my 8 year old to begin learning gun safety with. The advertised color of the weapon was desert tan but we received it in black. As well, It took me some elbow grease to pump the gun up 3 times. I don’t know if this stiffness will lessen in time but I’m afraid my 8 year old won’t be able to get past one pump (and the bb basically falls out of the barrel.) Overall, not impressed. I think this gun should be half the price.

Does not shoot. Not one single pellet. Because I had a death in my family and wasn’t able to try using it soon enough, so I missed the window for returns. Now I’m stuck with a product that I can’t use.
