Did not like all the plastic and the freezing of the bowl, not a great machine for the money

I love my old delonghi that finall gave out, after almost 20 years. LOVED IT. It was a compressor model and i know this was not. So I purchased two bowl, that amazon recommended to go with it. IT DID NOT, this ice cream maker is newer style and bowl revised, $50 bucks waisted after packaging gone and frozen bowl that did not fit.

I think what I do not like is the way this works, messy, too many parts that are unnecessary = hard to really clean and to make it, you really need a very cream based recipe, whole milk, not a way to make a healthy alternative like in a normal compressor nodel, so i made it (after the first bowl disaster) and it was ok, worked, not great, a bit soft and runny (just limp), or it then went too frozen and would not come out. Very little wiggle room, not good. But it worked about 80% of what I expected and have again, experience in making ice cream. I think if i was on a budget, and this was not a budget buy at $179, but if so, i would buy just a simple freezer bowl maker, more options in recipes, you do not need to worry about the soft serve being just right recipe and timing and better experience. I would not buy this again. BUT, i also would really not buy a freezer bowl model again, instead there are new compressor models out there, amazon and magazine recommended I am going to buy, they are about $280, but for the extra money, they do more, no freezing and will use more like my old delonghi. I just do not like this one from Cusinart, it has a limited window of results, take a bit too long, the recipe is really based on heavy cream and milk (not at all healthy and tastes like fatty ice cream) and the texture is only so so. It is way too many parts, messy, big and complicated. Add to this the shoot for kids toppings did not really work, was super messy. This is more of a novelty that was part of a party that I will just never want or like to use again. Waist of money, go better with a compressor if you really make ice cream or a smaller freeser bowl unit – same size both, but smaller machine and not mess and easier, cheaper and you just make ice cream over limp soft serve. I do not recommend this item.

    This is a great machine!
We put it together, just follow the instructions (took me a minute to figure out the dispenser mounting location). Left the bowel in the freezer overnight, the strawberry ice cream mix well chilled in the fridge overnight (because the wife couldn’t wait for the bowel to start making it). Next day started the machine added mix to the bowel and 25 minutes later had awesome strawberry ice cream. It made about 5 waffle cones with a little swirl above the rim of each (just to show how much you’ll get from one bowel.

Soft serve shouldn’t mean so soft it just blobs all over your hand off the cone. We left the bowl thing in the freezer for a while, like 3-4 days. We left the mixed ice cream in the fridge for longer than that. 25 mins…too soupy..30 mins…still soupy… anything over 30 mins and it feels like it’s just melting at this point. It doesn’t work. I WANT to love this thing. The toppings, the warmer, all of it. But it just doesn’t work well enough. Bummer.

This ice cream maker is great! The only thing is that it takes about an hour to make ice cream. Just be prepared. Other than that the kids love it!

Hard to give anything else over 1/5 for a ice cream maker that doesnt make ice cream, at best ive gotten a very cold slushy soup. Bowl was left in the freezer for a whole day and the dessert base was left in fridge for 4hours + 30min in the freezer to make it the coldest i could without freezing it. didn’t work.

From what i’ve read the freezer need to be at -18C, ideally -26C, im not even sure mine can go that low even on coldest setting.

Let me first say that I rarely review products I buy and that I’m generally a big fan of Cuisinart. I have a number of the brand’s products and will continue buying them. But I really felt compelled to offer an honest review of this disappointing product. So here goes: I was looking forward to being able to create my own recipes (high protein, keto) for this soft serve machine. I decided to try a couple recipes from the book first to make sure I’m familiar with the machine using what I would expect to be well-tested recipes. What a huge disappointment. First, the machine is huge, so unless you have counter space for it to “live” or a large accessible cupboard, I wouldn’t recommend this. If I’d kept it I would’ve stored it in the garage (although it was like a logic puzzle getting it back in the box!) and probably rarely used it. But for me, it’s not even worth keeping. The process is cumbersome and takes a long time (over 24 hours from start to finish) – as long as any traditional homemade ice cream machine. So there’s no advantage there. The first attempt, we weren’t quite ready to eat the ice cream when it was ready so it sat there for about 15 minutes. By the time we were ready, it had frozen so hard that the flimsy mixer couldn’t spin Through the thicker mixture anymore. Once it finally thawed to be “spinnable” again, we opened the serving arm and it came out in “plops,” not a steady stream from which you could make a cone. My husband gave up and opened the lid to serve himself with a spoon. Also the name is misleading because the toppings are just that – toppings. There’s no mixing IN to the soft serve like the name implies. We tried a second recipe on the second night we had it and we’re equally disappointed. Furthermore, the cleaning is a challenge. You can’t submerse the machine – obviously – but the receptacle where the ice cream bowl sits gets ice cream all over it and it does not appear to be detachable. For me, it was not worth the money for a large gadget that I’ll rarely use. I’ve read many reviews and am befuddled by claims that this is easy to use or clean or that it’s sturdy. IMHO this was a swing and a miss for Cuisinart. I’m sending it back today. Grateful that we do have that ability.
