I would highly recommend that you have this on hand when you go to replace the Moen cartridge. The tool is sturdy and works without issue. I used it exactly as the instructions stated and it pulled out the cartridge that was original from the 90s without issue. I might never use this again, but to have it on hand is worth the money.
I did follow other steps people recommend about spraying the cartridge in CLR and letting it sit overnight. Also, Moen’s customer service was great! I e-mailed them to confirm the part number for the cartridge. And they sent a new one for free under warranty. With an e-mailed guide and step-by-step instructions. Good luck with your replacement. Take your time and you got it.

If you aren’t plumber and don’t pull out Moen shower or sink cartridges on a regular basis, this tool is is for you. It is aluminum, light, but perhaps not terribly durable bouncing around in a toolbox all the time. It works well and saved me the cost of a plumber visit. Highly recommended and worth the outlay.

Very light material compared to my other puller.. but it worked well. I broke my other cartridge pulling it out with my other cartridge puller that was meant for a different cartridge so I wanted to get this one that was meant for my cartridge so I didn’t break it and spend hours trying to drill out my cartridge being careful to not hit any pipe. I got the cartridge half out and broke it again with this one but that was my own fault because I started to put pressure from side to side instead of pulling straight out. . But having it half out only took a couple mins to destroy and pull out the old cartridge. So I would say this is worth buying just don’t push side to side.

I had a stuck shower faucet diverter valve that needed to be removed. I was either going to use a small slide hammer on the stuck valve or try to fabricate some sort of puller. I ordered this tool instead and it worked as designed.
One word of caution: if your valve is as stuck as mine was, you may end up pulled the valve apart. The valve I was replacing had a plastic stem that attached to the brass valve. The plastic stem pulled free leaving the brass portion of the valve still stuck. This is not the fault of the puller at all. It worked as designed. Having the plastic stem out of the way allowed me to work on removing the stuck brass portion. If the stem you are using is made of metal, then the puller will work as intended while removing the entire valve in one shot.

Makes a sometimes difficult job much easier. I would highly recommend this tool for what can otherwise be a very difficult and/or expensive task of changing a Moen #1222 shower replacement Cartridge. Highly recommend for the home do it yourself-er.

It’s cheaper than the official Moen tool, and it works just as well. If you are replacing Moen cartridges, get this or a similar tool and don’t expect that your pliers will work, or you could end up with a half-finished project and the inability to turn your house water back on.
If you are to the point of needing to replace the cartridge, there’s a good chance the old one is stuck in place, and simply pulling on the cartridge with pliers can break it apart. This tool somewhat slowly but safely allows you to easily remove the old cartridge.

20+ year old Moen cartridge in other bathroom was seized in valve body so cartridge was drilled, cut, and taken out piece by piece without this tool. My other 20+ year old Moen cartridge went bad so I purchased this Danco core puller on Amazon over the Moen puller because reviews stated no better than Danco. YouTube videos show this tool extracting cartridges out pretty easily. My experience: this tool started degrading as the cartridge was fighting extraction. It started to finally move, about a half inch before the screw failed. I had to finish removal by drilling, cutting, and taken out piece by piece. I feel it’s worth the cost because if it wasn’t for SW Florida water and the age I believe cartridge would’ve come out. The tool itself can be used again but I will have to replace the screw. Side note: good tool for DIY work (couple uses) but if I was a plumber I’d look into a tool called ‘lakeview cartridge puller’. Saw that while researching the Danco tool. Good luck!

Tool was great. fitment for the moen fixture was great. Definitely use some sort of lubricant spray to help remove the old cartridge! the rubber binds up and makes it difficult even with the puller. Lube spray made cartridge come right out.
