Dog Training Solutions: Stress-Free Living – 123AB Description
A collection of articles, based on modern science, using force free and fear free methods
Solutions to common issues from pre-puppy to adulthood
Review – This is a book that all prospective dog owners, all current dog owners, everyone who has owned dogs all their lives, every professional trainer, should read. One of the best things that has happened to dogs today. – Jackie Drakeford, widely-respected author of many dog care titles including ‘Essential Care for Dogs: A Holistic Way of Life’ and ‘The House Lurcher’
Review by Lottie Bennett, Lottie’s School for Dogs – “Dog Training and Behaviour Solutions” is not your average dog training book. Indeed, it is a collaboration piece between multiple force-free and fear-free professionals and if two heads are better than one, then twelve must be even better than that!
The book is a compilation of articles written by these professionals on various aspects of puppy and dog ownership, care, training, and managing and treating behavior problems. As such, you do not need to read the book cover to cover, but the articles are compiled in such a way that it will take you through in a sensible order if that’s what you wish to do. Alternatively, you can skip to whichever issue you wish to look up and read articles about it. If previous knowledge of a preceding article is required, it is usually mentioned in the article you’re reading.
A Collaboration of Force-Free Professionals
It is good to see some articles referring back to others written by a different author, proving that this is indeed a collaboration between like-minded professionals and the advice isn’t coming from a singular source.
All of the writers do well at maintaining an overall ‘tone’ but of course, they write as individuals so you do get different voices. You may find you prefer some to others.
Despite a generally professional voice, the tone is friendly, and at (appropriate) times, humorous. From a grammar perspective, it is well written, so easy to read.
Something for Everyone
Some of the articles are brief and provide a quick and easy read; others are more lengthy, but the formatting and editing breaks them up well with subheadings making the text much easier to take in.
The advice is well presented without complex jargon and easy for anyone to take in, from people brand new to dog training to seasoned professionals looking for another way of presenting their information or an alternative method. Easy to understand anecdotes and comparisons help people to understand their dogs’ perceptions of situations.
The book “Dog Training and Behaviour Solutions” is brought to you by the professional team behind the Facebook group Dog Training Advice and Support (DTAS).

This is a marvelous book with great advice on living with and training your dog. Absolutely worth the price and a great resource.
Bonnie StPierre –
This book should be the first book you reach for when contemplating getting a puppy or any dog. It is full of common sense, kindness and advice that actually works. The authors offer the sanest most humane method of training and it may be a very different approach to many who have seen other methods. I believe you should only ever get a dog/puppy if you actually have the time, energy, interest and patience to spend time with them. If you cannot devote yourself to your dog, especially in its early months, then perhaps think twice about getting one. If you decide you do have time then this book will help you train yourself and your dog, so that the end result will be a well adjusted partnership, I recommend it highly, but only if you are also willing to put in the work to help your dog become all he can be in a kind and stress free way.

I have found this book to have some great advice that makes a lot of sense. I wish I had a copy when I had my previous dog. This is my go to bible for raising my pup. I have referenced it and recommended it many times. It’s well written and easy to understand. A must read for any dog owner.

I bought this as a study aid for my behavioural studies course and it has become a firm favourite because there are so many practical examples which are useful in helping me apply the scientific knowledge to real-life events. I hope there will be many more resources of this kind from this dedicated organisation in the future. Thank you all!

This book, with its step by step guides on so many common behavior “problems” most pet owners experience with their pups, is great! I hear so many stories of frustration and unhappiness from people about their dogs, when many times it’s not the dog at all, but their lack of understanding of what THEY need to do to get the result they desire. We worked on crate training, impulse control and barking in our household with our very sweet and energetic Bernedoodle, who travels the country with us.

If you want the best solutions for training your dogs without harming them this is the perfect book. It is full of common sense advice that doesnt require mental or physical punishment. I have purchased several for gifts also.
Moira Fox –
This is a great, informative book covering all aspects of training. It helps you understand how the wrong type of training can damage your dog physicaly and mentally. Every dog lover should read this to learn training techniques with patience and love.

Bought this book after spending time on the related Facebook group. The book offers many of the same posts, but in book form – much more pleasant to read than a website.
The authors have many years of training and dog ownership experience. They have a specific philosophy of positive training, no aversives (e.g., prong collars, leash snapping), as punishment is likely to exacerbate behavior problems in the long run. The key is always figuring out what behavior you DO want, and finding a way to shape the dog’s behavior in that direction. (Those who took a psychology class at any point will recognize this as operant conditioning, or Skinnerian conditioning). And all of this is presented with a sense of humor.
Overall the book is a very handy guide. I have purchased it as a gift, and I have recommended it many times to dog-owning friends. (The Facebook site is still worthwhile as well, since it provides links to videos and the opportunity to ask questions and read conversations between the trainers and others who are working with their own dogs).

This training book is an amazing resource whether you’re a novice training your first dog or are a professional trainer. This book is amazing for anyone who recently adopted a dog.

I bought this book to help me with a barking dog. It was easy to read and helped me understand my dog and why he behaved the way he did. Yes it’s in the past, no more random barking, the advice in the book is excellent and works. It’s not a quick fix but many good things take time and effort and it’s worth it to get a relaxed dog.

The subtitle of this book says it all: “The stress-free way to live in harmony with your dog.” Lots of trainers can teach you how to get your dog to obey you — but is your dog simply obeying to avoid hearing loud noises such as a soda can filled with rocks, or being yelled at or sprayed with water (or worse!)? The trainers who wrote this book will teach you how to have a great relationship with your dog WITHOUT adversive techniques, so that you and your dog work in cooperation. Following the advice in this book will help you to have a happy, healthy, and obedient dog, a dog you WANT to be a part of your home.
