If you’ve heard an Ibanez Tubescreamer then you know what to expect. This pedal very much has that classic TS style boost that’s a bit bassy and maxed out can get gritty. It’s just packaged in an affordable and small package and given a 2-band EQ.
To be honest I don’t find a lot of utility in 2-band EQ’s because of how important mid-range frequencies are to most, if not all instruments. However, it’s very nice to be able to tame the low-end of the pedal without touching the high-end. In other words, it could be better but it’s vastly superior to a simple tone knob.
The fit and finish of this pedal is great, there’s no quality issues or noises you don’t want it to make. It’s just a solid, tiny pedal that can add a bit more rock to your rig. I really love it’s sound with the gain flat out running into the clean channel of my Boss Katana 50. The Boss doesn’t have a very clean clean channel so adding a boost to it seems to give it a nicer character with a light overdrive. It makes the amp seem bigger and more tube-like which is a nice bonus.
Where I could see it shine too is being used as a traditional boost into a tube-amp. Add a bit of bass, keep the gain reasonable, boost the volume and then kick it in for a solo. That’s where the 2-band EQ becomes so much nicer than a tone knob because you can keep a bright and articulate sound for solos without pushing a thin sound right up front in the mix.

I’ve been trying out a bunch of Donner guitar pedals and gear over the last few months.
The Vowel Wah Volume pedal is another high value, low cost guitar pedal from Donner!
I’m actually looking to replace my vintage 60’s Meastro Boomerang Wah pedal because it’s very scratchy. I love the sound of it, but for now I’m going to pull it off my board and set it aside and replace it with this little beast.
The small form factor makes it a little awkward with my size 12 feet, but I was able to get a feel for it. I found it very easy to go too fast and make more of a screech than a wah, so it did take a little bit to back off on my enthusiasm a bit, but I fell into my groove and found it to be a decent replacement.
Since the pedal is so small, the sweep tends to be pretty quick, but you’ll get used to it. The tone wasn’t too harsh and seemed comparable to my old Boomerang Wah. When I ran it into the MonoPrice Tube Overdrive with the gain cranked into the Donner Mini Amp (clean channel), it produced some really wicked feedback tones, as if my guitar was pressed up against a Marshall stack! I was really blown away. I’ve only owned the Boomerang Wah pedal, and had it for 25+ years, so my comparison is ONLY to that pedal which is different than the CryBaby which this is supposed to be based on, but I found it somewhat familiar to the Boomerang tone which was pleasantly surprising to me.
In the video I’ll be posting soon, I run the wah with the Donner Ultimate Compressor (another great buy!), a Mono-Price Tube Overdrive, into a Zoom MS50G with a Vox AC30 amp sim, including delay/verb, direct out to a multi-track recorder.
I really liked the tone, but I don’t know if it’ll get picked up in the video, but my Zoom MS50G tends to make a high pitch noise – my ears pick it up but many may not hear it… So I swapped the zoom MS50G with the Donner Mini Guitar Amp (yet another great buy from Donner), with the stereo output (including Cab Simulator) into the multi-track recorder adding verb – and I think it sounds even better (and no high pitched hum)! I’m blown away with the sound from the Donner Ultimate Compreesor, Donner Mini Vowel Wah/Volume, MonoPrice Tube Overdrive, into the Donner Mini Guitar Amp! I mean, for about $150 for this pedal and amp setup, I think it’s SWEET TONE ON THE CHEAP!
Although using the Donner Mini Guitar Amp’s 3-watt speakers wouldn’t work on stage, I’d actually play live with this rig by sending my stereo feed directly to the house PA. I’d just ask the sound guy to put a little reverb on my guitar….
Durability is a test of time, really, but it seems solid and survived the first couple hours at least… and I’m not a small guy!

Hello my fellow musicians. I’m writing today about the Donner 2 in 1 mini volume/wha (Vowel) Let me start off by telling you what it is I like to play. I mostly play Heavy Doom/stoner rock and play in C# standard. I have never owned or had any prior experience with a wha pedal before this. I bought this little guy because of that fact. I didn’t want to spend the money on an expensive pedal since I wasn’t sure if it would be a pedal that I would like, or be all that into. So to avoid having a $100 plus pedal sitting around collecting dust, I thought it wouldn’t be a bad idea to try this one out first to test the waters so to speak. And it turns out I LOVE IT! I have no idea how I’ve went this long without owning a wha pedal. This for being an inexpensive pedal is pretty darn good. I really have no complaints about it. The pedal works smoothly. No loud clicks or pops when using the switch. The wha might not have the vocal range as some of the name brands but I’d say it’s worth a go, especially if you are a budget player and or just want to see if you like using such an effect. Go ahead and grab one. I feel that this pedal has opened up a whole new door for me as a player. On a side note I have 2 other Donner pedals as well and so far I’m happy with all of them. Not a bad route to go if you aren’t looking to spend a bunch of money on pedals. I also have some very expensive name brand pedals that I use so my experience with pedals are not just limited to one thing. Donner makes a good pedal and that’s that.

Overall I really like this volume pedal
What I like:
Very smooth operation that when you lower the volume the guitar goes dead quiet. I know some pedals out there don’t do this. I found that the operation of the pedal very easy and though it is about the size of a regular sized pedal…it was easy to use and has a nice taper of swell. I also found that there is no sound degradation in tone. The build of the pedal, though molded plastic feels very durable and in this price range the majority of the pedals out there are also plastic. This leads me to believe that it must be durable since many companies do this. My own opinion is this is durable and should last as long as you don’t jump on it.
What I found that I don’t like:
The only thing that I thought was an issue was there seemed to be a slight 5% jump in volume from 0% to 5% ….but after repeated use it was my own foot doing this and after some practice I was able to get very smooth swells
Would I recommend this ?
Yes, I have found the Donner line very dependable and of excellent value. This pedal is no exception. For the professional musician, there are higher end products they would likely use, but for the everyday musician or weekend performer…this is a great buy and well made for that purpose.

I like the fact that this pedal is not just a wah; there are so many times that a volume pedal is what’s needed for the occasion and this pedal has both. I like the Red and Green L.E.D. lights which automatically let you know what mode the pedal is in. I’ve been using this pedal for many months now and have had no issues whatsoever. Great pedal that doesn’t break the bank!!!

I don’t write a lot of reviews, but I wanted to for this one. This pedal was packed great and I think it works incredible for what I need it for. The 2 in 1 feature is awesome. The reason I bought this pedal was to save some room on my pedal board and to be light weight for when I’m moving my board from the house to gigs, practice, etc…. I currently use a dunlap sw-95 slash wah, but it takes up a ton of room. I am extremely happy with the tones I’m getting with this little pedal. It is made out of plastic, but seems to be built solid and sturdy. Its only powered by a DC9V, but I never use batteries anyways.
I really like how the pedal switches from Wah to Volume. I was expecting a button to press on the side, which I think is a pain. My Dunlop wah has a button on the side to switch from clean to distortion, but I never use it since its hard to get to when playing live. But for this, you simply press on the pedal with your foot when its in the down position, and it switches back and forth easily. You have to push firm which is great so you don’t switch from wah to volume accidently. The lights are also very helpful to see where you left off at. When you’re using the Wah feature, the lights will be red, then green for the volume feature.
If you’re looking for an inexpensive space saver on your board or a great alternative to a more expensive pedal, I highly highly recommend this pedal.
