Pros: They are made with bits of real dragon.
Cons: Too stiff for my liking. I’m not a fan of coated strings. I love DR’s electric strings so I thought I would give these a try. Not a fan.
To be fair, the quality was great and they sound nice. I just don’t dig the feel of coated strings. If you are a fan of coated strings or enjoy things made from fire-breathing mythical beasts you’ll probably love these. I swapped them out after a week of playing.

2 sets of strings for a good price and the quality is right up there with xt daddario and elixir plus not that it matters but the dragon skins a badass name in comparison.

I love DR strings. I use them on my basses and acoustic guitars. I manage the sound at a medium size church with multiple campuses as an audio team leader and I’m responsible for the condition of the amps, guitars and gear used in our live services. In my 50 years of playing I’ve used most string brands and DR’s have a noticeble tone and string life. These 13’s and the 12’s are my choice and I keep these in stock always. Even the ‘Elixir’ crowd are coming around to these coated strings. Plus two sets for the price of the above mentioned is a plus.

If you’re thinking about these. Keep moving, the coating on them feels sticky, the strings have a very dead sound, they are round core too so if you don’t install them correctly you will experience worse results, they are 11 for a two pack, too good to be true, if you want to try DR on your acoustic, I’d start with veritas or rares.

I love these strings, if you don’t use them-try them. I’ve used other brands in a pinch, or because I heard good stuff about another set of strings. I haven’t found any I like more, I’m only ‘brand loyal’ as long as it’s my favorite. I spend $20 on a set of some coated strings (I’m over uncoated, sorry- longevity is a factor) from a local store, and they never match the 2 sets I get for like $6 bucks a piece (double pack).

I like the strings a lot. The fact that they come in a very good deal makes it even worth it. The sound, the tone, the ring, the appearance have not changed a bit after weeks of use.

These strings sound dead straight out of the packet. Very disappointing,I expected more from DR Strings.

I bought these on a good deal thinking they might be able to keep up with the Elixirs that I usually play. No way… not only are they not as comfortable to play, but almost immediately out of the box they sounded dead. Definitely don’t have the same fullness as Elixirs. You get what you pay for, I guess. Not the worst strings I’ve ever bought, but I will not be buying again.

I have used Elixirs for fifteen years (on acoustic guitars) and love them. But… they are EXPENSIVE. I play every day and Elixirs last me about four months before one either breaks or they start to fray.
My initial reaction to these DRs was positive from a tone standpoint. Because they are roundwounds, stringing them up takes more care, but once you are past that, the only issue to me was… how long will they last?
I now know. My Martin HD-28 has been strung with a set of mediums for four months and its time for a change. I think the coating has worn off as the strings have started to change color (i think it’s rust) and they are sounding dead… finally. And it happened all in about the last week. In other words, it’s not gradual over the four months.
Your mileage may vary. I do not play with a pick, but I do have fake (acrylic) nails (thank you to my manicurist Ann). However, I am not a delicate finger-picker. I play hard. My thumb’s my flat pick and finger 1 through 3 and occasionally, 4 are often beating on the strings. When I do finger-pick, I’m often quite aggressive.
Elixirs may still have the tone edge—for some. I’m perfectly happy with what the DRs sound like. And I’m way mo’ satisfied with the price—about a third of “the higher-priced brand.”
