e.l.f. Tone Adjusting Face Primer

This works just as well as il makiage primers and it’s much cheaper!

I bought this primer to even out the redness on certain parts of my face. I have fair skin, and green neutralizes the redness. It leaves my skin feeling so smooth. Makeup application is a breeze. My only negative remark, is that the product size,although worth every penny a hundred times over, is small. Come on Elf, increase your primer size! Have this item on reorder regularly! Try it, you won’t be disappointed!

This feels good going on but didn’t work with my foundation ( elf). I tend to be red and wanted to tone it down for MOB pics. It made my foundation separate . Had to redo my makeup .

I suspect this might be the product that broke me out in hives (the other suspect being Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Face Cream, so if you’re reading this with sensitive skin, beware of that too – I started both products at the same time). I did notice at one point in the beginning days of using it, I watched this bump on my skin form before my very eyes. I was also noticing my already rosacea-type skin look even redder than normal. My skin also felt irritated. After a week, and after a day where I’d been sweating a bunch (with a face full of makeup) I woke up with some hives on the front of my neck (so me it looked almost funnily like a drip pattern). I then googled “Elf Primer Allergic” and came across this video of another girl who had the same hive situation where I did (on the neck), and yet she had an even more severe allergic reaction than me, like, her whole face and eyes puffed up. D: I then read the comments of the video, and there lots of others who had reactions to ELF Primer line in general. Some were still dealing with clearing up their hives weeks later, some even experienced symptoms as severe as facial peeling. Also, a few of them had been using the primer for a couple of weeks before they began seeing major symptoms, so extra annoying/scary that this can just hit you after a buildup of time. No one has time for unsightly and uncomfortable hives. I’m very lucky this didn’t happen before a major event where’d I’d be photographed or whatever.

And on a basic level, it did absolutely nothing for my redness, it was as if I didn’t put anything on at all. It was very slippery, but honestly, my daily facial sunscreen (Supergoop) does the same job, and I suspect any facial sunscreen would be better or the same. A failure on all fronts.

So, overall, I came away with a very negative experience. A definite waste of money for me, I’m not particularly wealthy, the whole reason I was buying ELF anyway, but maybe I’ll just save up for some better stuff next time (Smashbox primer is awesome but so expensive for my beauty budget 🙁 ).

Smooth and velvety appearance! I do have a combo skin (oily in t zones)…. I used a setting spray in these areas! There’s a few other products I found that I loved that helped too vs wearing caked on foundations (liquid or powder). I wish I could list them all and they’re all 4-5 stars and under $10-$13 ea. I wanted that glow without sparkles or bronzing type liquids. It just took trial and error but this product is a must have! It doesn’t come out green once it’s spread out/in. No scent. No bad after smells and lasted all day as long as you have a clean/no dead skin cell build up.(blotting oil sheets would be a good backup if you don’t use setting sprays. I find they sometimes over dry and ruins the effect of the primer! I use my fingers but I’ve decided to go to a kabuki brush:) Hope this helps!

This product works really well for the price. I was surprised at how well it held up after an entire day. If you’re looking for a good primer at lower price point you can’t go wrong here.
