The tool works well for aerating your lawn. It’s best for lawns with good uncompacted turf which lets you insert the three tines into the soil without too much resistance. The aerating tines have a hollow center to let the turf core extrude into the storage box. When you push down, the cores from the previous insertion come out into the box. Then you’re set to do the next pass.

They’ve used good metal on the tool and it has good welds, and it feels sturdy. The kit has the screws and nuts to attach the segments of the handle together, they even include the Allen wrench and another wrench to tighten the connections. The handle has cushioned grips for better comfort. There is a metal bar over the storage box that you step down on to push the tines into the soil. They also included a wooden handled weeding too so you can both aerate and weed.

This is best for smaller yards. If you have a big lawn, you’ll be working for a long time. It’s also best for soil that’s not too hard or full of rocks, and if you’ve got thick clay right under the turf, that will be hard to manage as well. But for most smaller lawns this will help keep the yard healthy.

The only other consideration is the bar you step on to insert the tool into the soil. You’ll need work boots or shoes with a stiff sole. If you use this for an hour or more, the bar will cause your foot to ache if the soles of your shoes are too soft. I’d much rather that they had put a flat plate to give your foot a better base to step on. Otherwise this is a well-made gardening tool and it should help keep your lawn in good shape.

I prefer core aerators over the spike version since they distribute the plugs/dirt over the lawn. You get larger holes and some top dressing in one shot. This is really the preferred method when overseeding your lawn. I have a larger tow-behind used for the larger lawn but I had smaller areas that it can’t easily get to – this is perfect for those smaller tight spots.

It was very easy to assemble – it’s just four bolts/nuts and there is a set of spares and the tools are included (allen key and a small wrench). They include covers for the nuts, and I’ll give them kudos for including a two-sided wrench that fits both the nut alone and the nut with the cover on.

The instructions are just fair and they were obviously translated from a foreign language (“Please DO NOT touch the 3 tines randomly to prevent personal injury”), but there’s pictures, and if you have assembled anything, it’s pretty straightforward.

It works and is fairly sturdy. There’s no flex or wiggle from the assembly at all. The dirt plugs will get stuck in the tines, but they pop out into the catch bin as you continue to use it. The last plugs will need to be removed with the included tool unless you have pretty dry soil.

There are only a few minor negatives:

    – Because of the handle, dumping the plugs is a little awkward to get them all out – you almost need to invert it and I would suggest wearing gloves as some of the dirt will likely fall on your hands. I’m not sure the catch bin is even needed as my tow-behind just drops them over the lawn as it goes.

    – The finish is decent but scrapes off easily. Probably not an issue but I would make sure this isn’t left out in the weather.

Neither of these detract from the overall product use, so it’s 5 stars. This would be tedious to use for a larger area, but as I said, I got this for some smaller areas where my pull-behind core aerator can’t get to. Most of the areas I have used this are 5×5 or less, so this is pretty convenient to use.

This is a well constructed aerator. It’s very heavy duty, goes right into the dirt and pulls out the core plugs. Well worth the price . It is manual so best for small yards. Easy to assemble, would by again

Clogs up and then becomes a huge pain to clean out. The tines are too small. I don’t really care for the catch try its not necessary and you have to keep stopping to empty it if you get lucky and fill it up before it plugs up. I threw this thing into the dumpster and hope I never see it again!

Ground was still wet when I tried this…but I like this aerator tool for small areas in the yard. Is obviously manually operated by using your weight to pierce the ground. Out of the box, it comes in 3 main pieces and is assembled within 5 minutes, comes with the tools necessary. All parts are made of metal and the catch pan is made of fairly thick metal. It had no problem with me stepping on the ends (I’m 200 lbs) with no bending/flexing. Feels like a very sturdy tool. Would definitely use a pull-behind or a self-propelled aerator for an entire yard but for smaller areas, this tool is perfect!
