My daughter is learning the obo this year. I bought this for her to practice with before I spent more money on a nicer one. We don’t have experience with reeds but it’s working for her first time trying out the instrument.

Returned this reed because it arrived broken. The soft plastic tube it is packaged in does little to protect it in transit. The tube shape resembled the flat envelope it was shipped in by the time it arrived. The string that binds it together was also less than perfectly wound. It definitely appears to be lower quality than the other one I purchased at the same time for $2 more.

Fast shipping and exactly as described. I am only rating as I did because we had purchased in hopes that it might help my son who is learning the Oboe as some of the comments said it did with their children but he says its extremely hard to use and to get sound from. Were going back to our Jones reed.

Well, it’s not a professionally made reed, but it does the job for a student. Easy to blow, which helps them build up their endurance. And affordable, too!

This reed is so much better than ones I’ve bought elsewhere. Any parent with a kid who plays a wind instrument knows the pain of split reeds! This reed is durable and a good price. My son also says his band teacher has said the sound quality from this reed is good.

Reeds are surprising rough, to the point they are uncomfortable for my son to practice with. I’m comfortable shaving reeds to improve performance, but this is not a performance issue, its a quality issue. The sound isn’t great, either, which is not the experience we’ve had in the past. We’ve purchased other Emerald reeds that were made better. I’m assuming this is a quality control issue.

I’ve been using this brand of reeds for years on oboe, bassoon, saxophone and clarinet. They are good standards and offer reasonable sound quality and durability for the price. I don’t play for a symphony or anything, so my sound is my own. But these are great reeds that have never let me down.
