I have such bad luck with expensive reeds that I started buying lower end reeds, with much better results. The tone was fine and it plays in tune. I have purchased Emerald reeds before and will continue to do so.

This reed suffices as a useful backup/practice reed for beginner oboists. At first this reed may be flat and/or soft, but soon emulates the sound of a handmade reed for one or two weeks. To some, this reed will not last as long as handmade reeds or have the full richer tone provided by handmade reeds. Be sure to use right reed hardiness (ie: medium). Finally, this reed is better than Jones reeds and is similar to more expensive store reeds, such as Singing Dogs. Definitely one of my choices for store reeds.

It is horrible. The reed is not playable . My daughter puts her reed in water for any length of time and still doesnt play correctly. Come to find out we got an older reed that’s has been sitting. I will never buy again. This is worst ever had. My daughter is devastated.

After years of looking around for the prefect reeds (including my teacher’s offerings) this is simply the best I can find — certainly for the price, which is more than fair. I tried one to see what the deal was and just reordered nine more. This reed is not too hard, not too soft, and like Goldilocks’s porridge is ‘just right’.I am an adult intermediate player, so if you are an advanced player this might not work for you. But then you are no doubt ‘rolling your own’. For those of us without those skills (or the time) this reed is the answer. This reed should work well for beginners as well..

After successfully playing the Emerald Oboe Reed “Medium-Soft” for several months, we decided to try the “Medium” reeds. For purchased off-the-shelf oboe reeds, they are pleasantly consistent and easy to play. A little scraping on one of the half dozen purchased brought it up to match the others.
Emerald Oboe Reeds continue to be a good find for my budding double reed players.

I have had not substantial problems with this reed considering it is not hand made. My instructor had to alter is a bit but said that they were not too bad for starter reeds. I will however be moving to hand made reeds as soon as I have more control over my playing.

, When I first got the reed I thought it was in good condition, but 2 days later the reed got a crack in it. I’d suggest that the seller should put the reeds in a better,safer reed case. But the reed sounds good.
