This is a great book that covers all the basics. Our lawn service has been awful. This will help my husband and I to get things green and growing again.
SacoFamily2 –
The information is good but there are no color section highlights. Iโm assuming this is printed on demand with no color option available.
None Needed –
Just as ordered!

Gives all the practical advice that you need to start a good lawn. It is also useful to those who already have a lawn that need attention.

I bought this book for my husband after we spent $2,000 to have our front lawn sodded. He uses it as a reference to make sure the $$$ was not wasted and to help the grass grow and thrive. He is very happy with this book.

There is a lot in this book but it is heavily for the US market. For instance the grass types it discusses are not used in the UK. Turf is called Sod. The weed species are different. Principles are the same though The US market in Lawn care is massive, in the UK not quite so as yet. If you are looking to start lawn care business or just look after your own lawn you are better off with The Lawn Expect. Older book but more specific to the UK.
For that reason 3 stars only because I am in the UK. It would be a 5 if I was in the USA.
Good book overall.

Both the cover and the back promise color photos to help identify problem areas and give ideas for design. Not one color photo is in the book. NOT ONE! I purchased this for a young man to help in his yard maintenance business. I am sure this will still help but I am very disappointed in the black and white photos.

terrible book. Got more from Municipal Lawn Care websites. Not practical. Not concise. Just awful.

I came to this book having just bought a house and knowing almost nothing about my lawn. This book was not only an excellent primer of basic information, but also a good bible of useful in-depth information (for example, different species of grasses of how they differ). Now my wife makes fun of me for my encyclopedic knowledge of our lawn.

Laying and caring for lawns.

We came from a condo…how we learned about thatching, aerating, adding soil/compost/shell mixtures to lawn, leaving grass high in heatwaves, dog urine damage & fixes to enhance growth and enjoying our amazing lawn. Best help was getting rid of pests (Japanese beetles=GRUBS–those large tan grass/dead spots!–GrubX) was great to know how to WIN. We just pulled out clover from neighbor’s patches. Even tho’ written 2 decades ago, the info is critical. For people who wished they had a nice lawn. We remind folks we had to start somewhere!

Overall, great book. Does not go too in depth, but gives you enough information to know what you are talking about when time comes to head to the hardware store.
Only disappointment is that its advertised with a Full Color Section. Printer must of only had black ink at time of printing as my copy had absolutely no color section whatsoever. My copy has really nice B&W photos. Would have been nice to see those in color. Did not complain or send back as my time is worth more than the expense of returning the book.

Best purchase I’ve made in a long time. Having recently bought and moved into our first home, we had no idea how to reclaim our lawn from the weeds that were everywhere. This book helped us learn so much about lawn care in general, as well as how to take care of the pesky weeds. Full of a lot of very useful information, and very well organized!!
