Etekcity 4-Pack Emergency LED Camping Lanterns

Seems to be a decent product, the lighting is good and is instantly activated, a good buy at the price and beats a candle any day, except for a romantic evening.

The lamps came in very handy and are awesome for camping because they’re super bright and easy to used as well as to set up.

I bought a four pack of the Etekcity lanterns for my family of four to take camping. So far I am really liking these little lanterns. They were purchased as a replacement for a single rechargeable battery lantern by C***man that would no longer charge.

Pros:
Compact size (see others photos) – These are about the same size as a large consumer can (not a #10 commercial) of soup!
Good light output for their size
“Adjustable” light output (more details in the comments below)
Easy to carry or to hang as needed
Run on 3 “AA” batteries
Good battery life

Cons
Easy to open further than desired thus releasing more light than needed
Light is the typical blue-white of LEDs
Emitted light has a x like pattern of shadow

Although these lanterns are individually not nearly as bright as the previous one, the combined light output is significantly greater than the unit they replace and they are smaller. These units say that the light output is variable. This is sort of true. While you can adjust the amount of light you see coming out of the lantern by opening or closing the top of the lantern more or less, all of the LEDs are still running at full power. This will only matter if you are using this lantern while backpacking or otherwise away from a source of fresh batteries as there is no true low power mode. In addition, we found that the method for adjusting the amount of emitted light allowed the lantern to “fall” open while carried and increase the amount of emitted light sporadically. We also found that the light emitted from these is the typical very high color temperature (blue-white) light of LEDS. While this is not a true negative, we did find that these lanterns did significantly affect our color perception.

Battery life appears to be good based on four days of camping and using these for at least 1 or 2 hours each night, along with the kids playing with them before and after the trip for a couple of days) with no noticeable drop off of brightness. The size and weight of these lanterns is excellent use back pack camping. My only concern would be battery life as I have not tested this yet. I have not yet tested the durability of these much yet. One was dropped from a picnic table on to grass and was fine but that is as far as we have tested them.

I bought these lanterns for personal reasons and they have given my husband and I such a return gift that one simply cannot describe their value.

About a year ago, a beloved friend told us that she found her youngest child trying to read a book late at night in her bed. Way past her bedtime. Struggling to hold a $1 flashlight with heavy, bulky batteries just wasn’t working. I felt that a child should be able to proclaim in adulthood “when I was a child, I used to fool my parents and read my books after everyone had gone to bed!”

Anyway, we ordered three of these Etekcity lanterns. One for her and one for each brother. So, everyone got a lantern. Miss Book Worm got to read in bed. Promote local literacy efforts? Check ✔️

End of story? Nope!

One day I got a series of pics emailed to me. They were of a bunch of boys, sitting around a picnic table in the woods. In the pitch black dark of night. Scanning the pics, we realized it was a local scout troop that both of the boys belong to. The troop was all playing cards and there was a large and very bright circle of light coming from the center of the table that lit up the whole area! There in the center of the table was one of these small Etekcity lanterns. The boys had taken their lanterns on a camping trip and they had taken their pics to show us how bright they were! That’s how bright the lanterns are that you can take clear pics after the sun goes down! So, we were pleased that the children found such happiness in using these lanterns.

My husband and I decided to order some for ourselves. They are light in weight. Very useful for the two power related outages due to storms. The batteries last a long time. Like a week of frequent use? The lanterns are bright enough to read by. Bright enough to walk the dogs by. Two lanterns lit up a 50 ‘ room. My husband was impressed and he is an engineer. He even knows what an LED light is all about . . . Lol! 😉

If I didn’t know anything about lanterns and wanted something very affordable and of good quality, I would want to find something like this. It is really, really a great lantern. Very pleased with purchase. Got a very nice note from company wanting to make sure we were happy with purchase. We were!

I’m making a grab and go kit for emergencies and these are perfect. They are compact, light weight, adjustable brightness levels and can be either placed standing or hung up. Even if you are not making a grab and go kit these are nice to have on hand and more useful than just an ordinary flash light. I highly recommend these as must haves.

Purchase these one we had a freak storm in Houston and was without power for six days. The set comes with four individual small lanyards. They have small handles which you can carry and it’s super easy to just lift the top in order for the lantern to work. The lantern is very bright and I was able to put one in each room. it was very affordable and considering I live close to the coast in Texas, I feel these will be definitely part of my hurricane preparedness kit. In the meantime, for power outages due to storms, they work great and provide great light.
