FORM Smart Swim 2 – Goggles

I’m an avid swimmer, typically hitting the pool 3-5x per week, averaging 2K+ yds per session. I’ve been swimming w/ Magic5 goggles which are amazing, however am a big fan of fitness tech and decided the FORM goggles were worth a try. Today was the first swim.

I do realize there’s an adjustment period, so this is just my initial 1st swim feedback on the experience. First off- the set-up was super easy, pairing to phone no issue, entered all my metrics, etc. To this point I’ve been using my Garmin Fenix 6 watch to track swims.
– FORM goggles are super comfortable, no issues with leaking however still need to dial in how ‘snug’ they are as I believe they were still a bit too tight which resulting in some serious rings around my eyes post-swim.
– display is clear and function of the goggles in tracking your intervals, rest, etc is amazing- starting workout was easy (Free Swim mode) and I’ve not yet tried the head coach function.
– There were a few times when pushing off the wall during turns that the goggles slipped down my face which caused leakage- this due to my head not being forward off the wall (typically I’m pushing off with head down). I adjusted quickly however, but something to be aware of during your first few swims. No issues with slippage while swimming though.
– post swim metrics far exceed Garmin, I especially liked the scores across all aspects of form.
– the fact you don’t need to push buttons on a watch to end your interval were a big bonus.
– My ONLY early negative feedback is the FIELD of VIEW which is VERY limited vs. the Magic5s….almost like tunnel vision. Where this MAY be an issue is in a more packed lane where awareness of swimmers in front of you is important, especially if you need to pass. I had to look forward often to ensure I wasn’t about to overtake someone in front of me. If your head is at the correct angle (during freestyle) you will have zero visibility in front of you. Likely I will get used to this- but if field of vision could be improved, especially at the top of the goggles, these would have 5 stars for sure.

I am very impressed and pleased with the features on these goggles! The addition of a heart rate monitor has been a game changer for my workouts. The real time display allows me to see what heart rate zone I’m working in so I can push myself further or slow it down when I’m wanting to go easier. The monitor is against my temple which allows for a more accurate reading, and I don’t even know it’s there. I love that I can see my real time heart rate, distance, and times in the viewer.

As an open water swimmer, I was hoping to find goggles that would help me with sighting so I could swim straighter and more precisely. The SwimStraight feature is incredible! I can easily calibrate the goggles before my swim with a few simple head moves. The built in compass keeps me on my path so I’m not wasting energy going in different directions. Because of the compass, I’m able to focus on my technique without picking my head up as much to sight. If I want to change directions during my swim, all I must do is face where I want to go and take note of the number on my compass. I’m so happy this technology finally exists for open water swimming! I’m swimming more efficiently, and even have the option of using them in my open water races. SwimStraight has been a tremendous help!

Admittedly, I was worried about whether these goggles would leak and fill with water. I’m happy to report that the seals are secure, comfortable and keep water out during my swims! I have had no problems in open water nor in the pool while doing flip turns.

Overall, the FORM goggles are fantastic, and I highly recommend them to anyone who wants to improve their swimming! I have been enjoying the various workouts that I can upload to my goggles and view while swimming. I no longer have to look at a piece of paper or my phone while I’m at the pool. Each set is visible in my viewer along with my distance and time. There is no more guessing during my swim workouts. Everything that I need or could ask for is being shown to me in the viewer using real time metrics! I love this product!
