Furhaven Waterproof Self-Warming Dog Blanket – Dove

Comfortable, cozy, and cost effective.

I purchased two of the small size blankets and here’s some questions answered:

Is it stiff? A little. It’s a lot like what you would expect if you put a piece of craft (brown) paper inside of a pillowcase. It slightly holds its shape, but it’s so thin that it’s definitely still a blanket.

What’s it feel like? The sherpa side is very, very soft, almost like cotton balls. The other side is like a knockoff velvet, which is also very soft. Again, it’s very thin and lightweight, but that’s why it has the inner workings for warmth.

How warm is it? I put my hand on it and within 10 seconds it was noticeably warmer. But note, my hand was warm. If you have a pet that doesn’t naturally produce a heat, like an elderly pet or a reptile, this will likely only help very slightly.

Waterproof? No. Also, DON’T put it in the dryer.

Does it smell? Nope. And I’m sensitive to smells. But, wash it first. You don’t know where it’s truly been.

Does it grip or slide around? It slides, likely because the fabric is so soft and the inner workings aren’t sewn anywhere but on the edges, so the fabric slips against the inside layer. Don’t put this anywhere you would consider a walkway.

Is it for humans? If you’re looking for something to stuff in your car for emergencies, this (large size) could work. It’s got the same stuff in it as those silver emergency blankets. And because it’s thin it doesn’t take up much space. I wouldn’t use it as a regular blanket though.

The blanket itself is nice. Some of the finishing threads on the edges are not cut and if pulled will unravel. Not an issue of the product, but when I purchase an item new – I expect a new unopened item. What I received was an opened product, clearly stuffed back into the bag with no care. Now I can’t give to my pet until laundered. This is the second item from Amazon in the past 2 months where I’ve received opened/returned product at new cost and w/out my permission. Unacceptable

Save your money, these are soooo cheaply made it’s not even funny. I bought the small and the medium blankets in the dove gray. These so-called blankets are really like mats. The faux sherpa/lambswool side is like fuzzy nylon stockings. Tufts of the sherpa can be pulled out so easily, and came off as I was inspecting the blanket. You can pull this sherpa side material away from the layer of noisy, crinkly mylar, because there’s nothing keeping it in place except for the side stitching. It’s thin enough that if your dog likes to dig as part of nesting, or your cat likes to knead bread with its paws, guaranteed this thing is destroyed after one sleep. Absolutely does not look chew proof, and I wouldn’t trust my bigger dog overnight near this thing. The side stitching along the blanket border is loosely woven, so I don’t see that holding things together long either. Not to mention that it looks like it would absolutely fall apart after one wash, if it actually survived long enough to be washed. It’s not even remotely plush either—I have bath mats plusher than this faux blanket. And, contrary to what many reviewers have said, the mylar middle is crinkly and you CAN hear it. Crinkly like those purposefully crinkly pet toys. If you’re a light sleeper, or have auditory sensitivities, enjoy sleepless nights as your fur baby changes position or circles endlessly on this sorry excuse for a pet blanket (see video to judge for yourself).

On a positive note, the other side of the blanket seems to be made of a more durable material, and it has a brushed soft feeling. So after your pet mat falls apart, you could likely continue to use just this side as a sad blanket companion for your fur baby. I have no idea how this item is so well-reviewed. For the price, I feel like I should have known better. But for all the wonderful reviews, I wouldn’t have purchased these blankets. Returning both and now on the hunt for something better.

The small blanket was to small. It separates when my dog gets on it due to something slippery within it’s interior. It is only large enough for a very small animal. I’m sorry I didn’t get the medium blanket.
