This product does work, but it takes some trial and error to learn how to use it properly. I wouldn’t rely on it to be fully accurate, especially before you learn how to use it. Unfortunately the instructions don’t really tell you how you should be using it. At first, I tried blowing across it like a flute, but I learned that this is not how to do it. You need to blow directly into the holes, not across them. You also want to take a big deep breath before blowing, as it wants you to blow pretty hard into it for about 10 seconds. If you don’t do this properly, you’ll get an inaccurate reading. I tested it completely sober, and got a 0 as expected. I also tested it when I knew I was definitely too drunk to be below the legal limit, and it consistently showed me in the red and above the legal limit, though sometimes it would vary slightly, but not too much. I can’t vouch for accuracy here, as I have nothing to compare it to, but if you learn to blow into it correctly it will give you a good ballpark range. If you don’t know how to blow into it properly, it will give you a low reading though, so learn to use it correctly before you trust the reading, and test multiple times and consider the highest result the most accurate.

The no-contact breathalyzer from the FREEZE2TRIM Store is dead simple to use—just turn it on and wait for it to tell you to blow. It’s compact, convenient to carry, and even comes with a keyring. I do wish it had a cover to protect the blow hole. The most important aspect of a breathalyzer is accuracy, so I conducted a scientific test to check this. After eating 3 pupusas and drinking a 12 fl oz Modelo (4.4% alcohol/volume), I waited 30 minutes before testing. In a 63°F indoor setting, I warmed up the unit three times and tested my breath three times, with 3-minute intervals. All three tests showed 0% alcohol. As a 150lb male with low alcohol tolerance, I usually get buzzed after 2 beers, and my face was noticeably red. According to BAC calculators, my BAC should have been around 0.017%, not 0%. This breathalyzer failed to detect any alcohol, casting doubt on its reliability. A reliable breathalyzer should be accurate within +/-0.01%. This one didn’t deliver, hence the 3-star rating.

This breathalyzer is very easy to use, you press the button to turn on and then let it warm up, afterwards you blow into it and after just a few seconds It gives you a colored light to indicate the level you are at as well as a percentage. The Quality of the product is fantastic, it is not flimsy plastic. One thing I absolutely love is the Portability of it, the key ring really makes it handy to take out on a night out. It really is a great Value for the money.

EDIT 5/2/24: My original review title was, “Not as expected, no voice prompts, misaligned / crooked screen” (NOTE: my attached photos show the OLD misaligned / crooked screen; the replacement is NOT misaligned / crooked). I sent a message to the seller and they appear to have corrected the wording in their Amazon listing, and they also sent me a replacement device. The new device looks good and functionally works as described in my original review below. My revised rating is from 2 to higher level 3 stars rounded to 4 stars. Again, while this one looks like and works per the listing, in general I remain unsure as to whether to trust this device in a real-world setting; it is something I will carry and use as an indicator.
The idea of a blood alcohol level tester that fits on a keychain is very appealing to me. However, to start the device I received is not as pictured in the Amazon listing, there were no voice prompts as described in the instructions printed on the box, and the readout screen (while easy enough to read) is considerably misaligned / crooked. That said I charged its internal battery and did a somewhat controlled test. I drank a series of ¾ ounce half shots over time using 100 proof bonded whiskey. Three things my (unscientific) test emphasizes: 1) the importance of waiting to take the test; 2) drinking water before the test and intermittently helps; and 3) drinking over a reasonable amount of time. Note that in all USA states, the blood alcohol limit is 0.08.
1st ¾ oz: Drank from 7:21pm to 7:28pm

Starting at 7:21pm I consumed 3 ounces of 100 proof whiskey, and according to the device, my BAC level returned to 0.000 by 9:10pm (and was under the 0.080 limit by 8:55pm with a 0.033 BAC). It is worth mentioning that I am a larger than average male. I am not sure whether to trust this device in a real word setting. I have missing feelings on this device but the issues noted at the start of this review are real detractors.
