Gator Molded Flight Case For Strat/Tele (GTSA-GTRELEC)

I don’t think the bodies differ from year to year, but this GTSA-GTRELEC is a perfect fit for my 2017 PRS Vela. There are a couple inches of space above the headstock, but the body and neck aren’t moving, so that’s not an issue. For this particular body, you have to kind of push the middle “wall” towards the head to squeeze the upper strap button into the case. It’s not a potentially damaging tight squeeze, but just enough that you know the guitar is not going anywhere, and that gives me peace of mind. Aside from that, I could probably do without the red logo and inside part of the handle, but that might help in low light, and the point of the case is to protect the guitar, which it does regardless of the color accents.

I’ve bought a few cases lately that I was not thrilled with – the quality, the fit for the guitar…there was always something off. I have a couple of SKB cases that are on par with this Gator case as far as price (well, right now this one is a much better price) and specs, but they seem noticeably cheaper to me. Full five stars for this Gator (especially at the current price, which I believe is a sale price, so get yours now!).

The latches and handle are flight-quality and solid, and the plastic is a step up from the cheaper cases for sure. Now there is some give in the plastic on the top and bottom, so it’s not like this is a reinforced steel case, and with enough pressure or abuse I can definitely see it cracking or breaking, but it’s solid enough that I think that’s not likely, even on an average flight (there are always nightmare scenarios though), and definitely during around-the-house or around town use, unless it falls off the back of a truck.

Note that I threw a few other guitars in the case to see how they fit, and *side-to-side* it was fine for a PRS SE McCarty 594, and SE Custom 24, but it left around 3/4″ from the bottom of the body to the upper horn/strap button on both guitars (same as the Gator GWE-Elec cases I have them in now), so those were sliding up and down. It *was* a good fit for Squier Contemporary Stratocasters though.

My Vela is not even a PRS Core, Private Stock, a Gibson Custom Shop, or some 1950s vintage hundred grand guitar, but it is something I really want to protect, and I feel a lot better with the guitar in this than the soft case it came in, and I’m very happy with this purchase.

We bought this case for a custom-made bass, essentially a P/J instrument with a neck from a Roadstar 2. Not only am I a custom instrument maker, but I have extensive history in instrument case design, having built custom woodwind cases for clarinets and saxophones, and having been commissioned to build a custom waterproof carbon fiber and titanium case for an Amati viola worth over a million dollars, so I know what I’m talking about when it comes to protecting instruments.

I assumed I’d be making extensive modifications to protect our custom bass, but in fact, so much of this case is responsibly designed that I only had to make one custom pad. And that’s a pad that I’d recommend ANYONE make who is serious about protecting their electric bass in this, or any case. The only exception might be if the body of your instrument already touches the case at both strap buttons so that the body can’t move either direction in the body cavity. Even then, a custom pad to ensure that the strap buttons would not take all the load if the guitar were to shift toward the head or tail would be wise. If the pad can also be shaped to ensure that the body can’t shift side to side, all the better.

With the pad customized to the bottom curve of the instrument, the body can’t shift in any direction, and the majority of the neck is also protected against shock, case-fall, etc. The tuning head sits suspened in open space in the case, so that no part of it touches anything, even in an impact. This is ideal.

We also checked that the height of the body relative to the neck means that no undue shear load will be put on the neck-body joint in the case of a flat fall in either direction, or the equivalent impact.

So, with the fleece upholstered grey pad you see in the photos, our cherry burst cherry bass is beyond snug.

Hello, friends! I bought a GTSA-GTRDREAD guitar case for a Yamaha FGX830C acoustic guitar. The case fits this guitar very well. The guitar fits tightly in the case and does not dangle during transportation. The only thing I would like to say is that at the widest point of the body the guitar fits very tightly, right next to the case, but I think that over time the inner lining of the case will shrink and the guitar will fit more freely in the case. Considering that all Yamaha FG/FGX series guitars have the same dimensions, then I think that the case will fit very well for the FG/FGX series. Before purchasing, measure the exact dimensions of the guitar; detailed internal and external dimensions of the guitar case are available on the gatorco website. I won’t post photos of the case; there are a lot of photos on the Internet and on the gatorco website. The guitar case in person fully matches the photos on the website. The guitar case is made of high quality and protects the guitar well during transportation. If you need to transport a musical instrument, then this case will cope with this task very well. The only negative I would like to mention is the weight of the case with the guitar inside. The case, along with the musical instruments inside, is quite heavy (about 7-8 kilograms) and this can cause significant difficulties when carrying.

Ero indeciso se acquistare una custodia diversa da quella originale per la mia Gibson Les Paul ma la forte differenza di prezzo della Gator, un momento favorevole nell’offerta sul sito che ha fatto scendere di molto il prezzo, e la possibilità di recesso nel caso che non fosse soddisfacente, mi hanno convinto.
Ebbene, non solo la custodia è arrivata rapidamente e in perfette condizioni, il risultato è soddisfacente e appagante, la chitarra entra nella custodia senza difficoltà ed è avvolta completamente, offrendo una sensazione di protezione completa nel caso di urti esterni anche di una certa consistenza..
L’allineamento delle due parti della custodia non pone problemi e le chiusure sono perfette, contrariamente a quanto riscontrato da altri acquirenti (forse sono stato fortunato..), quindi non ho da segnalare alcun elemento ostativo all’acquisto.. non posso che suggerirla come alternativa all’originale..
