I have an old, cheap 70s Sears Roebuck parlor guitar That I’ve been trying a lot of different strings on and mostly I’ve grown to love Silk and Steels (especially D’Addario) and I figured I’d try GHS because they sponsored my friends’ band when they went on tour.
I just got my set today and I immediately noticed how light the gauge is. The first string is .010 while D’addario’s is .011 doesn’t sound like much, but it’s a noticable difference and I’m worried about breaking them soon since I play pretty hard. What’s really nice about them being so light is I have this small old guitar that makes me worry about high tension and also I play without a pick and frequently do a lot of heavy strumming which sometimes leaves my right hand bloody after long sets or having to play a few days in a row. With these strings, I barely even notice they’re there. Playing feels a lot like just waving my hand in front of the guitar and making sound come out. It’s almost surreal I’m awarding a lot of points for that.
Then there’s tone. D’addario Silk and Steels have the kind of tone I instantly fell in love with the second I put them on my guitar for the first time, they have this clear, bell like quality to them that made me feel like my guitar was strung with angel hairs. Martin Silk and steels have basically the same sound right out of the box but loose it fast and old Martin strings end up sounding a lot worse than old D’addarios. Also they don’t actually use silk, they use nylon instead. The Ghs Silk and Steel tone is a little different, a but more mellow a tiny bit warmer and yet a little more metallic sounding. But it’s nice. I don’t love it, but it’s definitely not bad.
I’ll have to continue the review next month after I’ve worn them down, but I’d absolutely recommend these string to anyone worried about hurting their hands on a guitar. Fretting is a breeze, strumming is a breeze, they don’t sound awful.
The main downside is they’re more expensive than the other two silk and steel brands I’ve used and Martins are the only ones I can seem to find in retail stores rather than online.

I mostly fingerpick folk and country, so I always opt for a softer and lighter string, which silk & steel are known for. But these are the softest silk & steel strings Ive tried, and honestly the softest non-nylon strings I’ve ever used.
They have a very warm and mellow tone, great for bending notes and are gentle as flower petals on the plucking thumb. Perfect for what I play.
The only drawbacks I would mention – if you are trying to get very loud sound out of your acoustic, these aren’t the strings for that. As well, as is the case with all silk and steel strings, they will wear out quicker than more generic types. But these still last longer than any other brand I’ve tried.

Newbie guitar player, starting out on an inexpensive instrument geared towards beginners. The original strings that came with the guitar have a super thick gauge, and in no time, the fingers were in a lot of pain. I get it, that is part of the learning process.
The GHS strings have a very nice feel – not only taking the sting out of the fingers, but have a nice overall feel and are easier to press – night and day. Strumming and plucking with the fingers also seems to be easier, making learning more enjoyable. Definitely mellower, cleaner, and more metallic sounding. The mellower sound is a plus for the type of music I plan to play, and the jury is out on the cleaner/metallic sound.
Nonetheless, I give it 5 stars, as the real intent was to be easy on the fret fingers. It was a pleasant surprise to find that the strings were also easy on the strumming fingers.

i’ve been using these strings for about five years now, and could not be more please with their performance. I use the medium guage, and am surprised at the comfort, ease of use, and great price. Long ago I was a professional singer/guitar player, but was more of a singer, and played mostly rhythm. Recently I have been practicing and playing again at home and enjoy the mellow tone that the ghs silk and steel guitar strings provide. I find also that they last a long time as far as resonance, and stay in tune remarkedly well. I can no longer speak for professional use where they are used 2-5 hours per day. But for my 2-5 hours per week that I now use them they are amazing.

Grand confort de jeu, un tirant singulier qui se prête bien aux 000, 00 ou parlors.
Un son plus bas médium, sort, doux, le volume est un peu plus faible qu’avec des phosphore bronze, c’est plus intimiste et pour du guitare voix en pop blues c’est très bon. Le sustain est un peu en retrait, c’est le seul point faible

La scelta delle corde da abbinare alla propria chitarra spesso diventa una ricerca laboriosa che impegna diverso tempo e denaro. Ho provato diverse corde Silk di cui ho anche rilasciato qualche recensione, ma queste nell’immediato mi hanno veramente stupito. Le corde sono di colore “argento”, morbide e piacevoli al tatto. Restituiscono un suono abbastanza corposo e ricco di armoniche, almeno con i legni della mia chitarra. Mi sembra abbiano meno proiezione rispetto le Ernie Ball, anche esse ottime corde, ma in compenso hanno un suono ben bilanciato tra alti e bassi e un timbro quasi “personale”.
Voglio anche evidenziare la puntualità di Amazon nella sostituzione della prima confezione che mi è arrivata senza la 4° corda.
Ovviamente quanto descritto è puramente soggettivo. La scelta delle corde dipende dai gusti e modo di suonare e dal tipo di chitarra.

These are one of my favorite acoustic guitar strings for fingerstyle! They are so lightweight and easy to play and yet they sound so beautiful! When you put them on the guitar the high E string is so light you would swear that it’s going to break, but I’ve had absolutely no issues with that at all. On my guitar the tone is even from top to bottom. I’m using them on a solid wood guitar with a spruce top and maple back and they really bring out the tone of the guitar itself. The low E has what you might consider a perfect blend between an acoustic and classical guitar sound. It sounds like an acoustic string with a hint of rich beautiful warmth to it. The highs and mids are absolutely beautiful. On my guitar I found out that having the lower tension of these strings actually sounds much better than putting a medium or even light gauge string on. The lower tension of these very lightweight strings actually resonate the top of the guitar better. There’s more complexity to the sound and the overtones. Obviously I think you probably need a pretty nice guitar to get all the benefits of what I’ve just mentioned, but I’m going to be getting a lower priced travel guitar soon and I’m certainly going to put them on that too and try them out on it. They have plenty of volume for fingerstyle. I don’t really strum much so I’m not going to comment on that at all, but if you love fingerstyle I highly recommend them. I also like the all silver look of them. They are pricier, but worth it! And they seem to last quite a while. They settle in really nice too.

I’ve been a silk and steel fan since I got my first 12 string. I’ve recently transferred over from another brand to these GHS strings because I find they have a bit more definition. I also restrung a brand new Yamaha for my grandson to tame that “fresh out of the box” bite almost all new guitars have. They hold up well tonally and don’t seem to corrode as quickly as standard strings.

I purchased these to be able to use a roland pick up and effect pedal with my yamaha acoustic electric nylon string guitar. They are thin and easy on the fingers, and crisp and loud compared to regular nylon strings. I have found my perfect guitar sound, thank you so much!

These are easier on the fingers but not worth the god awful sound they make when your moving your fingers across the strings.

I used these on a Gibson Jumbo Acoustic which is such a beast of a guitar that I can’t handle it if I don’t play regularly. It is the loudest and most balanced guitar I ever had but the action is quite hard work. With these strings it is much easier to play. But tuning is not so good – and the tone and volume don’t compare to using standard strings.
