The Glaesel mute is about the size of a nickle, which is great for portability. However, it only covers two strings unlike the comb style mute so you’ll need two of these to mute four strings.
Muted sound reduces reverberation, which also reduces any harmonic and resonance qualities of the sound. Great to mute beginners, but not for advanced players generating high color sounds unless intentionally muting the sound.
Faith Nicole –
For myself, I find the muffled sound of a muted instrument intolerable. Since I don’t have to worry about playing to loud for practice, I prefer musicians ear plugs to reduce volume at my ear.
D. Erwin –
I have had one of these mutes for many years, and I have never been able to figure out how to use it. I opted for the little Butterfly mute that slides up the strings between the bridge and the tailpiece.
