I purchased this product after a family member bought a competitor’s trimmer. I had DeWalt batteries already, for use with other tools, and was pleased to find a trimmer that could make use of them. The battery is simple to attach and entirely secure. With the battery inserted, the product is lightweight and well balanced, capable of use with one hand. Both the grass and shrub blades were easy to insert and remove, and are firmly locked in place. Start up and operation requires a slider and a trigger to be held in place manually: there is no locking mechanism, a useful safety feature. There is no guard between the on switches and the moving blades as there are with longer hedge trimmers, so care is required during operation to avoid the risk that a supporting hand strays towards the blades. The trimmers themselves are solid and well made. They move fast and they are are sharp: even the grass cutter will handle thin-branched shrubs. The shrub trimmer itself is robust and a good size for shaping curves on bushes. We did not know that this tool existed until last week and now we have it, we can see that it will make much easier a variety of garden tasks we did less efficiently and effectively. Highly recommended.

I’ve now bought two of these and used both of them extensively. They work great, and 5ah Dewalt batteries (which don’t come with the trimmer) give it an excellent battery life.

The hedge trimmer only accepts twigs/branches up to 1/3-inch, but it cuts almost everything in its size range. On rare occasions something will get jammed in the blades, which causes the trimmer to stop and make a horrible screechingd noise. If that happens, just use a tool to pry the jammed piece of wood out, and the problem goes away..

I had purchased the Ryobi version of this tool at a local box store and the bearings came loose after about 10 minutes of use. But the concept of this tool was really tempting as I have a large garden and do a lot of perennial cut backs in the spring. It gets tiring with just a pair of hand shears. This tool held up well to small brush, like lavender plants and other small woody shrubs, as well as grasses and small dried up stems. I’m pleased with it so far given that it’s a third party tool and not OEM for DeWalt. It makes quick work of jobs that take much much longer with shears. It’s held up well to one season of use, hopefully more.

One thing to note if this is your first time using small trimmers, as it was for me. Prior to this I always had the larger trimmers that required two hands on the tool to hold it steady. This tool is easily operated with one hand because it’s so small and light. It’s easy to get in the zone and start hacking away at dead plants without remembering that this could take a finger off of you’re not careful. I had a couple close calls holding onto the brush with one hand and trimming with the tool in the other. It’s awfully handy having such a small, nimble trimmer but it can be dangerous if you don’t slow down and use it carefully.

I have a large ficus hedge and a fence and arbor with star jasmine growing on them. This time of year they both are very active and bushy. The area around the entrance to my front door gets crazy, with vines and branches growing into the walkway. Not ready to cut back the whole hedge with my gas trimmer so I ordered this small trimmer because I have quite a few 20v Dewalt tools and batteries. The two trimmer attachments went on and off with ease. I put a little oil on the cutting teeth and gave the whole area a haircut. Once in a while the blade would freeze on a larger branch (anything over 1/8″) but could be overcome by backing off and doing that area with a sawing motion of the trimmer. I even cut back a holly bush that usually takes me an hour of hand clipping. If this clipper keeps doing this kind of job, I’ll have spent my money wisely.

     Reasons I choose this item.

Compatibility with DeWalt Batteries: If you already own a DeWalt 20V MAX battery, the Heinpro trimmer is compatible with a range of DeWalt batteries, allowing you to use your existing batteries without purchasing new ones.
Flexibility: The trimmer is designed as a 2-in-1 tool, with the ability to switch from a hedge trimmer to a grass shear quickly. Works great, and I used it on my bushes and trees with no problem.
Design: I like the safety button on the top which makes it easy to use for extended time and use it safely. I get the need for safety, but some other models have it on side, and it gets tiring quickly.
It includes a blade guard and a safety locking device.
Battery: I use Dewalt batteries, which I already own, and use both the large and the small ones. It will run for a long time, over an hour, easily.

Finally, I like the color and the way it looks. It has a one-year warranty and was delivered free from Amazon. I like buying things from Amazon because if they do not work or I do not like them, I can easily return them.

    Hello all,

I recently purchased this trimmer behind my wife’s back hoping that by doing some additional yard work, I might get a pass. The trimmers arrived the following day which was a plus. Today on 5/28, I went out in the yard and got to trimming.

I will say that while the trimmers worked, they did do a great job. I did have to switch the blades for the different bushes in the yard. They stopped working on one of the bushes. I replaced the battery, but still nothing. Looked on the website and YouTube to troubleshoot the blades to see if they stuck, but it wasn’t the blades.

The motor just sounds busted. I switched both blades and neither work.
