hohem iSteady Mobile Plus 3-Axis Gimbal

I’ve waited to write my review until I had fully tested it in all conditions. I’ve owned it for almost a year now. I use it with my LG G8X (single phone, will not work with dual screen). The phone fits perfectly with the case off. It doesn’t quite balance with the Spigen phone case I use.

Pros-

Image stabilization!
-I’ve tested it running, walking, and even standing still. It stays smooth and gets rid of a majority of the jitter you get when you take steps.

Weight!
-It is heavy enough to keep everything stable, but not so heavy that it wears your arm out if you film for hours on it! (And yes you can film for hours on a single charge!)

Battery Life!
-I’ve had it for almost a year and have charged it maybe 10 times. I use it between 30 minutes to 2 hours at a time, about every other week. It doesn’t even take that long to charge either!

Mounts!
-The mini table top tripod is great for doing “talking head” videos. It is also great for a little extra hand holding space if you want to hold with both hands for added stability or security.
-Having the standard tripod mount point on the bottom allows for using a mount bracket extension bar. I have my Neewer CM14 shotgun mic mounted on one side of the extension and the gimbal to the other. Then put the table tripod on the bottom for an excellent table/counter top setup for videos, or you can walk and talk with it!

The app!
-It has great tune-ability for the gimbal. You can adjust the speed it tilts and turns. You can invert the thumbstick to change the direction it moves when pressing it different ways. There are a few other settings that you can adjust as well, if you want to dive deep in and thoroughly investigate this thing!

–CONS–

The app
-Yup! It is both a pro and a con!
-The camera on the app is garbage. It might work for some people, but it lowers the quality quite a lot! While it does auto zooms to avoid seeing the gimbal in the corner of the image, my standard lens in my normal camera mode avoids it and has a lot better image. Having the tune-ability of the stock camera app for custom ISO, Exposure, Color correction, etc is far better than the hohem app.

Not good for breezy/windy outside filming
-The stabilizer moves itself to try and correct for the wind and ends turning itself all the way.

Long story short, it is a great gimbal with amazing stabilization for far less than you’d pay for a DJI or other name brand! Would I recommend this to others? YES! I gave it 4 stars! It would have a 5 star if it weren’t for the wind correcting and the terrible camera in the app! So if you are hesitant on buying this gimbal, DON’T WAIT ANOTHER SECOND! This gimbal is amazing and incredibly easy to use. I loved both the gimbal and its dedicated app. It’s definitely one of the best gimbals I’ve purchased. Unfortunately, I had to return it because it didn’t fully meet all my needs, and I managed to find a better, but used, alternative for a similar price.

**Good Points:**
1. It’s very smooth (no stutter in the motor).
2. Super easy to switch between vertical and landscape mode.
3. You can mount large phones (in landscape mode).
4. A lot of flexibility for motor rotation.
5. Very strong motor.
6. Dedicated app is well-developed and on par with DJI.
7. 600-degree inception mode.
8. Free carry case (I really love the case).

**Negatives:**
1. Can’t balance the gimbal in vertical mode with my S23 Ultra.
2. The slider button doesn’t work very well with manual focus.
3. Impossible to balance with any ND filter (though I believe the gimbal motor can handle the weight if somehow you manage to balance the gimble).
4. All plastic built gives a cheap impression

Overall I would definitely consider this gimble over DJI Osmo mobile 6

 This iPhone Gimbal, when compared with other models across Amazon, does much more than any of the “Sponsored” models and comes in cheaper, as well. I recently bought a new iPhone and wanted to take full advantage of the new and improved camera. This gimbal was just the right fit for my needs. After downloading and opening the accompanying app, the gimbal will automatically connect to your phone through bluetooth. The stabilization you get out of handheld footage is great, and totally workable for small projects – music videos, short films and skating videos come to mind as great uses for this item.

With four different modes of stabilization, you can get pretty much any type of imitation tracking, panning or dolly shot you want. Each mode essentially “locks off” one or two of the three axes of rotation. After playing around with it a bit, I found the options to be very robust.

On the handle, you have controls to help you zoom in and out, as well as a 4-direction controller that operates the rotation of the camera. The zoom in and out function only has one speed, so good luck if you want to get a steady zoom. But the rotation of the camera has a degree of sensitivity, so you can speed up or slow down your pan and tilt shot. I was also excited to see that the vertical and horizontal axes, while it can not do repeated 360 degree rotations, can do at least one full 360, which if you want some strange arty shots is a lot of fun to mess around with. There is also a trigger on the handle that when double-tapped will re-center the camera, and when held will keep the camera locked in a single direction for “sport shooting mode.”

The camera app also has a lot of nifty features, including various shooting modes, including a trippy (if somewhat unnecessary) “strobe mode,” but this is complemented with more useful shooting modes, like Slow-Motion, Time-Lapse, and standard record modes. The default seems to be set to still camera mode, which to a film-maker is a little baffling, but it only takes two swipes on your phone to get there so is not a deal-breaker.

Occasionally the gimbal will lose its way and get turned around a lot. More than once I found I needed to utilize the re-center feature to get back to center before all the axes got twisted up in the wrong direction/ Once my camera even started recording upside-down! While this was slightly disconcerting I would attribute it mostly to user error while getting to know the controls and understand the different stabilization modes.

All in all, this is a great little gimbal for an amazing prices. There are plenty of steadicam and gimbal options for iPhones on Amazon, but this one provides an iPhone film-maker with an incredible, solid option for getting beautiful shots in motion.

 Esta gimbal é fácil de usar, intuitiva na app. Muito boa para quem se está a inicializar no mundo das gimbals e não quer gastar muito dinheiro. Mais que suficiente para o que quer. Decididamente recomendo o producto. A App da mesma também ajuda imenso na utilização da Gimbal.
