Review2Me –
I bought this LECA because it was the cheapest I could find for the quantity.
As others have mentioned, most of it is not round. If aesthetics are concerning for you, this LECA isnβt for you. I actually think all the variation makes the LECA fit together nicer, and I actually get better results with it. Yes roots stick to it, but roots stick to the round ones too.
Yes itβs a little dusty when you get it, but what LECA wonβt be? They all rub on each other during shipping. Just rinse it and itβs completely fine.
No they do not sink. I donβt know what makes these different than others, but they definitely always float. It doesnβt really bother me, so thatβs not a concern.
Having said all of that, Iβm very happy with it for what it is! It works great and the price is right!

The 40L bag seems to be the best offering as far as clay stones for hydro go. These are a little rougher, and to some uglier, than hydroton. I find washing these out is a little better than dealing with hydroton. During transport you’ll get some sand generation as a result of the stones rubbing against one another, but that quickly washes out. Sizes are a bit more random, ranging from very small to very large. Post-hydro they work well to aerate soils as well, albeit they are a bit large.

The bag weighed 28lbs on arrival. I filled 50, 4″ inch net cups and still have 8 pounds leftover. I was worried there wouldn’t be enough but it is plenty for my hydroponic vegetable garden. As far as the quality of the ‘pebbles’ they seem to be average. For those that are looking for a perfectly uniform round ball appearance, don’t get this product. A random sample taken from the bag consists of various shapes, perfectly round being the most rare shape. There are quite a few fragmented and broken pieces mixed through out. As for me, I wasn’t concerned at all with looks, only usability, and these seem to work just fine at holding water and creating space for oxygen. I tested their claim of being pH inert and found it to be true. These pebbles did not appear to change the pH of my water. They are gritty however and will need to be washed before use. Overall, happy with the price for the amount and would buy again.
update-
I soaked the pebbles for 24 hours and they still float on the surface of the water. 24 hours should have been more than sufficient for them to be “fully wet” as the description says. For anyone that needs these to sink to the bottom of water do not get these, they will float. They will work for the purpose of a net cup being about 2/3 submerged in water. Try and submerge the cup in water any deeper and the pebbles will push up out of it. I am still happy with them because I don’t need them to be be submerged, only half under the water at most.

I used this to act as a drainage medium for a reptile vivarium.
A lot of people complained about the pieces not being perfect balls. For me, this didn’t matter, especially since when I think of “pebbles,” I tend to think of imperfect little pieces. The clay pebbles do vary in size, with a marginal amount being tiny enough to slip through a strainer. However, it is quite a large bag and I had plenty leftover.
For my purpose, it works quite well. It helps to keep the humidity in the tank without leaving any standing water. I have yet to see any sort of mold or fungus growth. I am quite pleased!
Hint for cleaning: I divided the bag into manageable amounts and used an old strainer to rinse them off with the hose until the water runs clear. This a longer process but helps to thoroughly rid yourself of all the dust. I originally tried just throwing everything into a large bin, filling with water, and pouring out the water but I still ended up with dusty water. Do yourself a favor and clean thoroughly the first time around.

I built an aquaponics system for my daughter and filled the grow bed with two bags of this media. The media was extremely dirty and ended up clogging my laundry sink. Iβve never had anything clog my laundry sink before but the excess clay dust from this media did it.
Despite soaking the pieces for a week, they still float. Most of the pieces are broken and there are a lot of really small pieces, the size of gravel that can wash down into the fish tank and cause issues with your pump.
After figuring out that they donβt stay in place and float, I ended up getting pond rock from Lowes and using that to fill up half of the grow bed. I then used 1 bag of this media to complete the grow bed. This was a lot cheaper and worked a lot better.
If I had to guess, I believe this is seconds or perhaps defects that are sold as firsts and for the price, that makes sense.
I found much better media from another vendor. The biggest difference is the legit clay sounds like rice crispy cereal when they get wet from all the pores soaking up water. These definitely do not do this. They are more like lava rock or something weird.

A very good size for this product. I’ve been using this for the microgreens for a year now. If the clay beads get to gummed up, I just put them into the garden. Makes a very soil additive.

Love this laca pebbles. This is a really big bag and amazon had it cheaper than my local store. For indoor plants I recommend to soak them up in boiling water as others mentioned that some flies were coming out so wanted to stay protected and kill all the bugs/bacteriaβs although didnβt noticed any just as a precaution

I have now used this product for a few years w/o a break. They donβt break down, so repeated use means you do get your moneyβs worth. Others have seen them i. My tank and are i. Awe and likewise follow suit, which is how I came to buy them. A neighbor had the same tank, used the same priduct, and referred me to Amazon.

I’ve been using the Grow!T GMC10L Horticultural Clay Pebbles in my hydroponic system. It has several benefits but also a few minor issues.
Pros:
The 4mm-16mm size range is ideal for most hydroponic setups.
The clay pebbles provide excellent aeration and drainage.
The 10L volume offers good value for the price.
They are reusable after cleaning, making them environmentally friendly.
Cons:
The pebbles can be dusty upon arrival and require rinsing.
They may float initially in the hydroponic system until fully waterlogged.
The bag can contain some smaller fragments and dust.
They can be heavy, which might affect some lightweight systems.
My conclusion:
The Grow!T GMC10L Horticultural Clay Pebbles are a solid choice for hydroponic gardening. Despite minor inconveniences, they provide good aeration and drainage, and are reusable. If you’re a hydroponic gardener, these pebbles are worth considering.
