I ordered these litter boxes because we have a cat that loves to dig with LOTS of enthusiasm so the litter is always on the floor. These boxes have vastly improved the amount of litter outside the box because of the high sides. I read one review that indicated that there were no clips to hold the top on-I thought the same thing but it turns out that they are a little tricky to assemble. Once they were joined they worked great and did hold the box together. This has not improved the litter situation 100% but they are well designed, easy to clean and I have purchased more because they are the best litter pans that I have found. The only bad thing I have to say about the product is the litter scoops that can be purchased with the pans are terrible so this time I am reordering just the pan. I have a multi cat house hold and they are well worth the money-great product!!!!!!

The box and top are sturdy. The top doesn’t stay on very well. And there is a ridge running all the way around on the inside- makes it harder to scoop.

the litter box is big enough for two cats & the high sides keep litter mainly inside the box. I have less cleaning to do & the sides come off with a quick lift for cleaning & refilling. I would highly recommend this box for all you cat lovers out there.

Hello , I have to say I just set these two IRIS Open-Top Cat Litter Boxes and my cat actuallly used it .
And there was no mess on my floor! So far so good! I am like everyone else trying to find the easiest kittybox with less hassle, even though my family member think I should just give up! I can’t , I’m the one who takes care of the litter boxes!And even though it seems like the top doesn’t stay on ,it’s loose, but if I have too I will just use a little boxing Tape if I have too! But I love how HIGH the sides are,”my cats won’t use a litter box that has a Lid on it! “Maybe because it’s like their toy house that’s enclosed and where they like to sleep, And just get away from everyone from time to time! So this is the perfect Iris Open-Top Cat Litter Box, seriously ,my cats use it ,so I’m so happy! It help’s me, it makes my life chores a little easier, and that’s great ! Thank you IRIS COMPANY! This litter box really helped me control my litter situation at home. First of all, my litter box was already concealed in a piece of furniture, but the cats would spray their litter all over the inside of the furniture so I needed to clean it out every other day. I could not fit an enclosed litter box (it would be my first choice for reducing litter spraying) in this piece of furniture as it was not high enough for any of the available models. This litter fits perfectly in my furniture and really helps in reducing the litter that is sprayed out from the cats.
I have to agree with the others to say that it is flimsy, the top does not fit perfectly with the bottom which is something I find unfortunate. However, because it has helped me reduce the amount of litter in my piece of furniture, it did save the day for me!
If you can get an enclosed litter, I would say go for that. If you are in a particular situation (like mine) where height is an issue, definitely go for this model!

My cats seem to like this litter box a lot, because they use it more than the bigger one I have. I got this box because I wanted my cats to have a litter box that was NOT covered on the top yet had the high walls to prevent too much litter being kicked back in. I’ve had cats all my life, at one point I had 4 cats at home while I fed/trapped/neutered/spayed 4 other cats where I work. So, you can say I know a lot about cats & I know a good litter box when I see one. This litter box is a good size for cats that are under 15lbs, if they’re bigger it might be a bit tight for them but at least there is no ceiling on the litter box which I think helps the cats feel safe (some cats hate enclosed boxes because they feel trapped in them which they would be if an aggressive or just playful cat waits outside).
This is, btw, 1 of 3 litter boxes I have for my cats, I do think they’d be fine with one but I wouldn’t be. I like that they have this one in my hall closet and it is next to my litter genie (I have 2 of those as well). I have minimal cleaning up with this box but I also face it to a wall and have a rug underneath it so if/when litter is kicked out, it is contained.
I also really like the price of this box and that it’s easy to clean. I haven’t experienced any leakage between the open top and the bottom pan but my cats (my final 2 right now) are very neat and tidy (yes, they give true meaning to the name Tidy cats – which is the litter I use as well).
Overall, this litter box gives you bang for your buck, is a nice medium size and is fairly decent looking.

Update: I just noticed there is another newer model with a scoop by this company (http://www.amazon.com/IRIS-Open-Top-Litter-Shield-Scoop/dp/B002BDU8EW/ref=sr_1_1?s=pet-supplies&ie=UTF8&qid=1442856506&sr=1-1&keywords=cat+litter+box) that is not getting as favorable reviews as this one. I stick by my review of THIS version. Would recommend to everyone, and if I need another litter box will get another one of these. Excellent product. No problems. Sturdy, easy to maintain and cats love it.
Both my cats had enclosed litter boxes, the type with an enclosed top and bottom and entry hole. One was an igloo shape and the other a regular square shape. I got tired of latching and unlatching the things twice a day, and the latches breaking off and having to replace the entire box. So I decided to give these a try. I was concerned about the low price as I though they might not hold up very well to my 12 lb cats, but I was in for a surprise! Not only did the cats take to them right away, I no longer have to lift or unlatch the lid anymore. A breeze to clean, no litter gets out when kitty digs, and no ordor that I expected due to the open top. I would highly recommend these to anyone. While the measurements may seem small, they hold both my 10 and 14 pound cats (yes, the 14 lb one is on a diet) very comfortably. Each has their own box, and they both love them. Thank you IRIS for a great product at a great price! UPDATE: Both my cats have been using these litter pans for months. The top has never been dislodged or come off, even with the “tom-girl” Tort’s clumsy in and outs. Litter has never come over the sides. I like them because the cat’s head is out of the box, and they are not forced to breather in any excess baking soda or clay dust when they cover their leavings. I recently changed litter to Fresh Step and don’t see any “smoke” coming up at all, and any odor is well contained. One of my cats has taking to urinating in the corners of the box but she did this with other litter boxes also. I love that I can scoop litter directly into the box and clean the box without ever removing the lid. I read that some people have trouble keeping the lid on but it does not seem to be the case at my house. The only time I remove the lid is for the bi-weekly washing of both boxes. While not required, the washing is something I do regardless if it needs it or not. Again, 5 stars for IRIS, I love this box.
