Used this to test our brake fluid which has been in there for a few years. Wanted to be sure it didn’t absorb too much water and could last until our next brake change. With this was able to quickly test what % water it was and compare it to the proper safety standards. This way you aren’t doing break liquid flushes purely based on time, but can do it only when needed.

Usage:
– you must clean the probes every time before you submerge the tips into the brake fluid reservoir for an accurate reading
I tested against:
1) 3yr old car with 40,000 km on fluid (green)
2) 11yr old car with 140,000km on fluid (red)
3) Classic vehicle with unknown years and km (red)
4) Classic motorcycle with 18yr old brake fluid (red)
5) Previously opened bottle of brake fluid (Castrol LMA) with good cap (yellow)
6) Another previously opened bottle of brake fluid (ATE) with good cap (green)
7) Very old bottle of brake fluid with broken cap (red)
8) Water (4% red)
9 Distilled water (3% red)
Pros:
– green, yellow, red LEDs easy to understand
– easy to read in the dark
– appears to be accurate
– inexpensive
Cons:
– green LED bleed into other LEDs which makes it look like all the LEDs are glowing green at first
– battery door is hard to open by hand and I predict the plastic tab will eventually wear down
At this price, it’s hard to complain. Great product!
Note: Amazon says battery not included and this is the case even though the package on the back says included.

My Toyota dealer said that my Rav4 required brake fluid change every three years, at a cost of $380! Whereas that Toyota maintenance document only calls for routine level and condition tests. I bought this tool which showed it to be perfectly fine, at 0% H2O level.
Then I used it to discover that my motorcycle and Porsche 911 did need brake fluid replacement.
This inexpensive little tool is a nice addition to my tool box!

Great little tester, and it is accurate. I just flushed and filled the brake fluid in my boat trailer, so I used this in the reservoir and it showed 0% moisture content which is accurate as all of the fluid had been replaced.
I then used it in my truck reservoir which needs some love, and sure enough it shot all the way up. I hate to admit but I am behind on replacing the brake fluid in my truck.
Flush your brake fluid every time you do a brake job! Don’t be like me and put it off. Get yourself a one person brake bleeder, takes less than 15 minutes for good peace of mind.

This tester seems to do what it’s supposed to. I tested it on the new fluid and what was in the brake reservoir of different cars we owned. I was surprised to learn that 2 out of 3 cars had bad fluid (red LEDs) after just 3 years since the last flush. Tried the measurement several times and consistently getting the same results. I am planning to change the fluid on those cars soon.
The battery door of the tester is badly made as it keeps falling off on its own. I add a piece of electrical tape to keep it in place. For the price and its performance I would buy again.

I bought this to test the moisture content of the brake fluid in my Harley. Not something I’ve done over the years but I guess it’s a good idea with ABS equipped bikes as ABS modules are expensive if they have to be replaced due to corrosion. My brake fluid checked good. Thought I’d test the tester and checked it with water and it registered so I assume it works OK.

I expected this tool to work, even if it’s just a rough measurement. But the results make no sense. In short, it shows brand new fluid to be contaminated but old fluid in the car for a couple of years to be good/green. I can tell better by the color! A complete waste of time and money!

Appears to be accurate. Had a repair shop say I needed a brake flush. Which hasn’t been done in years, and fluid was light brown. Picked up car post flush and still brown? Used the pen and showed 4%+. Went back to shop and showed the guy, this time it was done. Very inexpensive tool to monitor moisture in fluid. Easy to use. Good tool
