Juno QC6 CP6 Quick Connect LED Downlight

These lights are great. Easy to install and set. Wiring was a breeze because all the wires had connectors for up to 3 additional wires already installed. Just strip the ends and plug in. Each light took less than 15 mins to install apart from the first since there were more wires and figuring it out. I’m not an electrician but years of homeowner experience. Numerous remodels. I don’t remember my previous can lights being this simple. The price was also a big factor. Added some led lights from Sunco and beautiful.

A lot of people like to install wafer-style LED lights in houses. I generally hate those and feel like they are a microcosm of poor planning. Even though I am using LED light trims I prefer to install a can housing. These can be better sealed in an attic space and provide a solid mounting point for a light fixture. Having used the wafer-style lights I can rarely get them to sit fully flush. With these mounts that is not a concern. I love that these provide a much better air seal and are IC rated as well, meaning you could go overboard and spray foam around the opening where it meets the drywall and create an airtight seal.

Also, pay attention to the fact that these do not come with pigtails that adapt the wiring to an E26 (standard lightbulb base). This is generally not a big deal as my LED light trims have the included plug, and it simplifies wiring. I’d rather snap a plug together than thread a bulb while standing on a ladder. But, if you were hoping to shove some standard bulbs in these while you finished construction You will have to source bulb adapters. I am not knocking these housings for that omission as you should generally not need them, just making a potential buyer aware of what these come with.

This is a case of six LED lights, in 4-in housings, meant specifically for new construction so they can be built firmly into the ceiling. They have full housings so they can be secured into the ceiling and wired properly.

These lights appear to be of a professional contractor grade. They accept typical wiring properly. They do not appear to have any risk of overheating or shorting out, and they are designed in such a way where there is plenty of room to install them correctly.

These are being used in a drop ceiling as I finish the basement. With the high quality housings, I am able to place them exactly where I want them to maximize lighting. I am having great luck with these lights and I am very happy with this purchase. I didn’t need any problems for this giant diy project, and I definitely didn’t get any from these lights!

A few things with these lights… I like them because they are sealed and there’s no air loss from inside to the attic. They are a little taller than a standard box of Kleenex, (which is perfect for the low lying roofline), and they have the arm attachments to secure to the rafters instead of just laying on the ceiling drywall. I know that doesn’t sound like a biggie to most, but a lot of the older homes used nails and not screws to secure the drywall in place, hence the ‘nail popping’ bubbles you see on walls…No since putting weight on an already flawed item.

Now down to the nitty gritty…the way the manufacturer packaged the items wouldn’t be my preferred method. All six of the units were just thrown in the box with a few air packs. Think about this… they nails and sharp edges so the air packs probably didn’t make it past the front door. Lol. I didn’t find one of the units without some type of damage, dings/dents and the standard bent arms/anchors. They are easy to bend back in place but still. My next big thing is the thickness of the wires. I don’t have anything to measure wire thickness, so I used a wire cutter. The wire easily slid through the 12 gage hole on the cutters and would make a mark in the coating on the 14 gage, so the technically the gage of the wire itself is probably closer to a 16. I’m by no means an electrician, but I know the wire in my home is a 12 gage and is a lot thicker than this wire. Yes it says it’s UL rated for LEDs, but personally I don’t like how thin it is especially if I’m daisy chaining them in my attic. I personally will use the cans, but will be rewiring them with a thicker gage wire. Maybe it’s overkill but once these are in the ceiling you won’t be able to easily monitor them to make sure nothing is getting overheated…I would rather be safe than sorry.
