This is a great tent for some casual backpacking. I think it is a bit too heavy for a thru hiker though.

I’ve only used it on one trip but it performed well. It seems pretty durable so far, especially the poles which feel very high quality.

I can’t say much about waterproofness. I was expecting rain so I sprayed it with some Scotchgard to be safe. For what it’s worth, it didn’t leak. I can’t say as much for my “rain jacket..”

I liked that the rainfly connects with buckles – makes it super easy and quick to attach or remove. There’s also 2 pockets inside and loops at the top for a shelf, though none was included with the tent. It would have been neat if the tent storage sack seconded as the shelf.

As I said earlier, it is a bit on the heavy side.

    Tent weight: 3lb, 4oz
    Poles weight: 1lb, 3.2oz
    Stakes weight: 6.5oz
    Total weight: 4lb, 15.2oz

If you’re fine with the weight then I think you’ll be happy with this tent.

I love it! Bought it to take on a week long motorcycle trip with some friends. I’ll be sleeping in it solo. Ended up testing it out camping at the beach where my girlfriend and I slept in it for a few nights. It’s pretty tight with two people plus our bags.
We were indeed able to fit both our sleeping pads in it though.

It will be exactly what I’d suspect anybody would need if they’re solo in it.

Very easy to set up. Even first time setting up it took about 3 minutes. It seems to be real nice quality. I definitely recommend.

I got this tent for our teenage son. It is by far one of the easiest tents I ever installed. One person less than five minutes. It went through some very heavy half a day rain and mild winds and not a spot of rain in the tent. It is very good quality fabric with aluminum poles. The footprint is one of the shortest we ever owned. It is bit of a stretch and quite a bit shorter than the floor area, but it still works. The tent does not have window or vent in the back of the rainfly. It gets reeeeaaaaaly hot in warm weather. You will need a fan in the summer. The poles are rather thin. Not like our Kelty Parthenon. I don’t know how good will they fare in strong winds.

The tent is easy to assemble and disassemble and will fit in a smaller bag than what is provided, so if you wanted a compression bag to save space in your pack, that is something you could do. with the footprint you are looking at a little over 5 lbs total. this 2 man tent would sleep two, but is real roomy for 1.

Tent is well made and extremely quick to put up, even in the wind. This is my first-ever Kelty tent and I wish I would have had this before now. Well designed. I’m an avid backpacker and have had a really good 1-man tent that I’ve used for years and finally wore it out. I wanted its replacement to be similar in design, just as quick to set up, but with more room for the same weight. This tent gives me exactly that! It only has two bars and they slide in their pockets with ease, giving the tent stability from the get-go. From there its nine quick clips to set up the tent, then throw the cover over it and clip the corners down. Done! The tent comes with real tent stakes too! Not those little stupid ones. Kelty for the win!

I have a tent that is nearly the same size from Mountain Hardwear… the nimbus. Actually this kelty tent goes together more easily and I think the design is better thought out, especially how the fly attaches in the other attachment parts.. The only downside is it is it just a little heavier than my Mountain Hardwear tent. For that reason I chose to take the Mountain Hardware tent on my long through hike that I did recently however at just about a pound more this kelty would have been fine also. One tip about backpacking from someone who has spent a lot of time doing it is take the most comfortable backpack. A pound or two is not going to make much of a difference. What matters most is how comfortable your pack is.

I bought this cus I needed a new tent for backpacking trips and I must say this is the most compact 4 person tent I’ve ever had. It’s lightweight compared to my old one but feels more durable. I must say it’s also rather spacious when put up more then enough room for 3 people and there packs.
