The Kenwood DNX576S is a fantastic upgrade over my 2013 Toyota Tacoma OEM base-level receiver. I purposely searched for a onboard navigation system because I was tired of having my phone occupied while receiving (hands-free) texts and calls. The Garmin navi is awesome, and even better than the stand-alone unit I was using previously. The DVD player is good, and I use it all the time while waiting to pickup my son from school and baseball practice. My 4/5 star rating is mainly based on the small function buttons, the lack of a turn-knob volume controller, and no mute button. The AM/FM tuner controls are a little wonky as well. I ordered the unit from Amazon, and had it installed by a local vendor. NOTE: The DNX576S is a 2019 model and will require an firmware update straight away. The firmware update is also required to update the Garmin maps from 2019 to current. The onboard Garmin is updated via Micro-SD card, and the Kenwood unit is updated via USB stick, so make sure that gets hooked back up during install. Total update time (after educating myself) was one hour.

Fits right into the compartment of the old stereo. Got it for the navigation.
4 stars: Needed to get a new dash panel to allow for the stereo itself. The original dash panel had a storage slot for things like CD jewel cases or maps. That storage space is lost for the stereo. Also needed to buy a Maestro Cabling kit in order for the stereo to communicate with the vehicle and smart phone. Great upgrade and worth the extra expenses to get it operational. Should also show “Check Engine” codes on the screen without getting a tester.

This unit had everything I wanted including MP3 disk, AM/FM radio, Garmin navigation, backup camera, Android Auto. It is similar to the one installed in my wife’s car; however, she uses an iPhone. From day one I battled the Android Auto connection. Nice when it works but distracting when troubleshooting. Can take 10 minutes if successful. Have kept firmware up to date on both phone and Kenwood. Too many variables. Is it the Samsung phone, the Kenwood or the Android Auto software?
And NOW the AM radio has stopped functioning. FM works for music but want the AM for local sports and talk radio.
Who repairs these units after a year and a half?
    Update 11/27/23:
Found an authorized repair facility with friendly, helpful, people. However, it had to be returned a second time to get it functioning properly. It lasted six months and again, the AM/FM radio stopped working. Apparently, the Kenwood-sourced ICs are of poor quality. I really like the features of this unit when it is working.
Replacing my phone finally got the Android Auto functioning as it should. Garmin and Car Play also work well. Having navigation separate from the phone is an advantage for me. I want this thing to work but am hesitant to put more money into it.

Like to wait an eternity for your head unit to boot, how about paying for map updates, but wait there is more!! Order today and we’ll throw in at no extra charge, random reboots. Order within the next 10 minutes and we’ll throw in a manufacturer that doesn’t care!! If that isn’t enough to persuade you to buy today……how about a nag screen that is always there reminding you to purchase that expensive map upgrade that was outdated before the unit left the factory. Yup, what a bargain Kenwood has become. Never again!! Kenwood refuses to stand by the rebooting issue. First map upgrade……..too bad, get the visa card out if you want the maps to work, and not have a nag screen taking up half of the display. For the price I would’ve expected a bit more. Kenwood has ruined their name. Too bad…..

Overall I like this unit, but the one thing I definitely DID NOT LIKE was it came with a map that was well over a year old. When I contacted Kenwood about my disappointment of buying a new unit with a 2019 map on it I got pretty much “oh well get the current map from Garmin for $70 bucks”. Other than that it’s an OK unit.
Just plan on the $70 expense of upgrading the map.
