This ground feeder is extremely sturdy and well-built. I wanted a more substantial material as wood is prone to decaying and cheap metal rusts over time. The Kingsyard ground feeder is made from heavy duty recycled plastic and the inner metal tray is a thick metal plate; it will not bend if a heavier bird were to land in it. I actually have medium-sized birds (collared doves, wood pigeons, magpies) that have a habit of landing hard into the tray itself from the trees above my house. Clearly they seem very comfortable with it!
My birds enjoy this feeder a lot. It did take some time for them to warm up to it as it’s taller than most of my regular small ground feeding birds (sparrows, finches) but after scattering seed nearby, it took them about a 2+ weeks to get comfortable with it. Once every week, I discard old food and sanitize the tray with castile soap, white vinegar, and then sun dry before refilling it. I’ve had this feeder for 4 months now and have not experienced any issues. This is my 3rd Kingsyard feeder and I’ve really enjoyed all of their products, especially this feeder.

I love this little feeder for my squirrels. I have bird feeders and this helps them stay away (mostly) from my other bird feeders. It’s sturdy and easy to clean and won’t flip over when they sit on the side. I love watching my little vermin snack. 🙂

I used to use metal ground feeders for the wildlife outside, but over time they break down very fast. Within 3-6 months they start to fall apart and at 9-12 dollars a pop now, that adds up when I use 8-10 of them.
So these feeders hold 5 times as much. These can be cleaned very easily, they have a straining floor that has tiny holes so air can help keep it dry and it has folding legs underneath that hold the feeder a couple inches up off the ground.
Squirrels, birds, deer, everything eats from these feeders. If these last a year, they will have been well worth the higher cost, compared to the smaller metal ground feeders.
The deer have not damaged any of these, whereas with the metal feeders sometimes the deer can accidentally step on the metal feeders and bend or weaken them.
Essentially these reprocessed plastic/metal feeders are superior to any ground feeder I have used up to this point.

This feeder seems very well made and I think it will be around for many many years. The recycled plastic is sturdy and strong, and the metal drainage tray bottom looks like it will be very resistant to rusting, plus it’s not flimsy at all. I bought the green color and like that it’s cheery but also blends in with the landscape. I filled this feeder with black oil sunflower seeds (in shell), cracked corn, and white millet – none of the seed fell through the metal drainage tray, so that’s a win! So far the sparrows and finches are finding it, and I’m hoping Juncos find it this winter!

I seldom write reviews (although I’m trying to do more), but this product deserved the time and typing. It was sturdy out of the box, easy to prepare, and has proved to be a hit with the backyard birds. I’ve been looking for the “perfect” platform feeder and finally feel like I found it.
