Until recently I’ve never played flats on my American standard p bass so I had to try them. The gold looks great against my sunburst finish and tortis shell pickgard. They feel smooth and have a nice warm tone.

After a recommendation from a bass guru friend, I restrung my five string Jazz Bass (active) with LaBella Gold Flats. The low B string finally sounds focused, in tune and not tubby and generally it is a lot more fun to play. The tone quality is even up and down the fingerboard and I finally like how the bass sounds and feels. While these gold flats are pricier than some strings, I am very happy with the price performance ratio. This five string has always been a bit cranky and difficult but no longer. These flats did the trick.

They look fantastic, especially against a single color finish.
They feel like La Bellas: very high tension (which I personally love, but be mindful, as they do tend to bow necks a bit after a year or so); very thumpy attack with a slightly shorter sustain than other flats.
The only thing I’ve ever disliked about La Bella strings is they tend to be extremely bright when brand new – that being said, I find they tend to age better than other flats, as that brightness mellows into very natural, woody high end – unlike other brands, which sometimes have a tendency to just sound like you’re slowly turning the tone knob down as they age.
C. D. Curran –
Decent sound quality, produces the tone I wanted, a warm sharp sound that is more nuanced than nickel roundwounds, however the quality of sound made by these is not worth $70, my other complaint is that the gold fades quickly with minimal practice and play, but that’s just aesthetically annoying, the WORST part about these strings is how grabby they are, many others I learned AFTER purchasing report them to be very grabby and hard to slide fingers down. They are a fun idea and aesthetically appealing, and I really wanted to like them especially for the ridiculous price, however in the end they lost the gold color instantly and sound is comparable to WAY cheaper strings, I recommend Ernie Ball Nickel Roundwounds that are worlds apart in quality and playability from these strings.
Lasna –
Received one of these by accident and couldnt believe the tone!! Brightest Flatwound string ever made with twice the sustain!! High tension so, not for every Bass but total game changer on Fretless!
Trex –
Alway heard about Labella strings, so I decided to get the gold Flats. Absolutely love them!!!! My favorite Flats to use, sound amazing feel amazing and are holding up amazing. I will NOT use any other strings besides Labella gold Flats. Spend the money and get them.
Takecareofyoureyes –
I admit, I purchased these in part to match my gold hardware (switched from black roundwounds.)
I’m actually shocked by how much I LOVE these, and I am completely satisfied with the purchase.
– the tension in perfect for me, there is no ‘floppy’ looseness.
– these feel so smoothe to move across the fret board, I can’t even stress this enough. It is such a joy to play.
– the color (gold) is a true gold, like you would expect bullion to look like. A lot of hardware for sale is very brassy or orange-ish.
I have purchased 3 more sets because I am so happy with them.

These gold strings are just as described. They feel smoother, softer and play a noticeably deeper bass sound that to me, make these top of the line for the La Bella flat wounds that I use on my other bass guitars. The tension is low the clarity is awesome they make my Bass look great and for the price they are a great value. So I have them on 3 of my 5 basses and recommend them to all who love smooth jazz with a deep punch.
