Let me preface this review by saying that I’m not being paid to do this review, have been working on guitars for many years and know what I am talking about. This review is my personal experience with one guitar. That being said, this guitar is beautiful, was setup very well and was playable right out of the box. All I had to do was tune it and it was ready to go! I did eventually replace the bridge with one of a little better quality. The original bridge worked pretty well, but the saddles were just a little wobbly, which is common with guitars in this price range. This is my second Leo Jaymz guitar, I also own the US flag Strat style guitar and this double cut SG model seems to be the better built of the two. The neck feels great and kinda on the slim side with nicely finished frets. The guitar weighs about 6 lbs 14 ozs, and seems very sturdily built. I have been playing guitar for around 40 years and own about 17 guitars. I would definitely gig with this guitar and at $129 it is an exceptional value.

I am a cheap guitar addict. I buy em constantly and because of this I have developed a pretty good set of skills and tools to fix up a guitar. This particular SG from Leo Jaymz needed most of them.
In terms of how it feels to play: It has the typical headstock heavy weighting of an SG. The neck is pretttttty chunky compared to my other guitars. The finish is matte and doesn’t have any clear coat or anything on it, the top layer is paint. The frets are rough and uneven – see cons section for more detail. Sounds pretty good, truss rod works, knobs work.
Pro:
High vis yellow SG is gorgeous. Not for everyone but I love it. Replaced the hardware with rainbow chameleon stuff and every single person that sees it has comments to make. Very unique.
Plastic nut is cut okay

Pickups sounds quite good to me, I had to do some eq tweaks but it certainly sounds better than a lot of the other cheap guitars do from factory. My pickups are not microphonic at all and the pots are smooth. The switch sucks – see cons
Cons:
The frets were awful. 3 or 4 so high they’d fret out for 3-4 notes up the neck. I leveled, crowned, polished and now it has awesome frets. It was my first full fret job and I didn’t get it perfect – couple spots aren’t crowned perfect and I prolly could a done more polishing but now I know I *can* do it.
Neck holes are drilled wrong. The screws for the neck have threads engaging in the body and the neck. I drilled out the body holes so they were clearance. Also noticed the neck holes are slightly oversized…glued a broken tooth pick into each one to give better thread engagement.
The tuners felt like rolling a triangle. Very chunky and gritty. Replaced with locking rainbow 1:21 ones and it looks insanely good and holds tune almost perfectly.
The saddles in the bridge are loose and click clack back and forth when you bend. Doesn’t seem to affect tuning or anything but I replaced it with a better rainbow one.
The finish is very chip-able and on the neck is not exactly smooth or “fast” feeling. It seems to be getting better the more I play it though as my hands smooth out the finish.
Noticeable line where the finish ends on the neck and the binding shows through. It does seem to be wearing down/smoothing out but you can feel the edge of the paint on the neck binding.
The switch feels like it’s going to break if I look at it wrong. It’s super wobbly, mushy, and just unpleasant to use. It does work but the question is for how long. I will be replacing it soon.
So for my verdict. Only buy this guitar if you want a project SG. I do not recommend for beginners and definitely do not expect to play it out of the box. It can become a real player if you work at it (honestly it takes like 3 hours to fix and set up once you’ve done it a few times) but I dunno if I’d be comfortable saying I got $130 worth of guitar from the factory…if I didn’t have the ability to identify and fix the multitude of issues this would’ve been an instant return. If you want a cheap guitar that plays well stock I’ve had good luck with Indio by monoprice – LP style for around a hundo if you catch a sale.

I ordered this with a plan to replace most of the parts. I was pleasantly surprised to find it ready to play right out of the box. For a beginner, it is ready to go as is. Tune it up and you are ready to play. The bonus is by modifying parts to your liking, you can get a really good sounding, good playing guitar. All of the frets were consistent, no truss rod adjustment needed for good action. Highly recommended for a beginner, or someone who wants an SG for modding.

 The Leo Jaymz “Double Cut Standard” is a very playable, excellent value guitar. The fretboard is finished very nicely with no sharp edges on any of the frets. The neck binding is smooth and has no gaps. This instrument competes very well with any guitar in the sub-$300 price range and is as good or better than some guitars costing even more. The electronic components are adequate and can be easily upgraded if desired to get pro-quality tone.
The guitar shown in the demo video is completely stock with the original strings. There have been no adjustments to the neck, bridge, or intonation. It just needed to be tuned up and then it plays great right out of the box. The volume and tone controls provide a nice variety of tones from bright to mellow. If you are in the market for a good looking, full featured “SG” style guitar at a budget price, you can’t go wrong with the Leo Jaymz “Double Cut Standard”.

I mainly bought this as a wall decoration due to the beautiful flag design on it. It’s actually a decent guitar and with just a little adjustment to the neck and action height, it plays well and sounds decent. The neck is a bolt on and is subject to bending a little if you play a certain way, but that might suit some players. I liked this one so well that I ordered the Tele style one too. It’s even more impressive. In fact, I’ll be upgrading it with some improvements and making it a real player. Can’t go wrong with either one. Just have realistic expectations given the price and understand that some setup or upgrades might be needed if you really want to play this and be happy with it.

Guitar was packed well. Needed some basic setup, new strings, and fret cleaning done but other than that, it was ready to go. Neck and fret board are nice. Build quality is also very good. The weak point is the pickups. Microphonic and strange…produced weird “howling” feedback when using any kind of gain. Removed the stock pickups and installed a set of Jacksons I had from a previous project. Changed the look nicely and definitely sound better. This guitar plays and feels great. Definitely pleased.
