Letaya 3 Drawer Metal Filing Cabinet With Lock

I bought this for my dad as he needs a storage space unit in his room. Size and sturdiness is great as it fits in his bedroom nicely. Color wise is great for him as he wanted black and things not easy to get dirty. The unit is easy to use and easy to open as it requires a key to open. Installation wise was kind of tedious as it took a couple hours to install and figuring what parts goes where.

I love the look of this cabinet. I had to replace a three drawer lateral filing cabinet. The old one was a very sturdy one that probably cost hundreds of dollars, this one was reasonably priced at under $200. I am a teacher and the school does not have much money for extras like this so I was excited to find one for under $200. The saying “you get what you paid for” is very evident in this case. While the filing cabinet looks very nice, it is very thin metal and seems very flimsy. I hope it lasts me a few years. It is a bit more shallow than my previous one, but everything fit nicely. It does lock and that is what I needed, one that locks. The lock is very flimsy as well, I do hope it holds up for awhile. I only received one key and really would like two, in case one goes missing.

Came faster than promised, good price point, in my opinion easy to assemble. The drawers are a bit tricky you have to push down firmly but one you do it’s smooth. People complaining about the drawer alignment need to read the instructions on the side of the panel push down firm!

I think this is a good file cabinet for the money, but there are a couple things a buyer should know:

1) The drawers go in very tight. They snap into place, and that’s a good thing. But if you want to take it back out again, good luck. I tried, but was afraid of bending things out of shape to get them loose. Moving the cabinet later will mean moving it with the drawers in place.

2) If you follow the instructions and fasten the cabinet to the wall before putting the drawers in place, you will probably never move the cabinet, because you won’t be able to get the drawers out of the way to remove the wall anchor screw.

I didn’t follow the directions, because I was assembling the cabinet in a different room from where it would be placed, so I assumed I would anchor it later. Trouble is, when you put the top drawer in place, it’s too late to put in the anchor bolt. I opted for an “L bracket” mounted on top of the cabinet. Not very pretty, but much more accessible if we ever want to move the cabinet. And an anchor is a must-have, especially if there are small children in the home, even though this cabinet will only let you open one drawer at a time.

Don’t misunderstand me though. I do think this is a very good file cabinet that should last us many years. It’s made of thinner metal than a commercial grade cabinet, but once it’s assembled, it’s quite sturdy and it didn’t cost over $1,000.

Packing was good, all parts are good condition. Assembly was easy and drawer space ia good enough to store clothes, toys and documents. Only minor fault i faced is the 1st drawer was not closing fully ao could not lock. Came up with workaround that in the end try to lose top cover screws and create very small gap (1/2 cm) on top roof and ledt-right support metal walls and top drawer closes fine. To keep this 1/2 cm gap intact inserted small packing material that way top drawer always closes without any issues and all drawer locks also works fine. Hope they fix this issue as that is the only assembly part took time (1/2 hr extra) to figure out issue and to fix it. Otherwise over all assembly is 1 hr with very comfortable approach

There is a LOT of assembly to do here, and it is much easier with an extra set of hands. Our unit arrived with damaged rear panels, but it still went together ok and we didn’t file a complaint. In assembling, it can be quite difficult to get the drawers properly aligned so they all close. Be prepared to work on it, press/bang them down into place, to make it work. The unit feels cheap, and this feeling really doesn’t go away. It is definitely not a professional office quality thing that would feel sturdy, solid, and cost four times as much. That said, once assembled and with some contents added, it is respectable. The dividers in the drawer and the hanging rails feel cheap, and the dividers do not go in tightly. Breathe on them and they’ll fall out. Who needs dividers anyway, right? For our purposes, particularly since it will be used as much for supply storage as filing, it will work fine. If you need the extra heavy, extra sturdy filing solution, stick with the big office supply place ones that cost hundreds of dollars.
