remote controls a little confusing unless used regularly

Purchased this unit primarily for streaming video, although I do have a large DVD/BR collection. Initial setup was pretty simple, although the WiFi receiver isn’t that great, continually losing signal or just not getting enough signal to play movies (even in SD) my old Panasonic worked just fine in the same spot on the same network. Next problem is the constant freeze ups when streaming, have to unplug it and plug back in just to turn it off, then you have to setup the wifi settings all over again, but this time around you have to do it two to three times before it will actually work. Got frustrated and decided to just put in a BR disk (was stuck at home sick for 3 days with no other entertainment), it loaded the disk fairly quick but sounded like a dirtbike was running in my bedroom, thought it might be the age or condition of the disk so I tried a few others BR and DVD and all had same result. I finally piled a bunch of T shirts on it to muffle the sound but even then halfway through the movie I had a headache from the humming noise. Ended up hooking the old Panasonic up again as a stop gap til I could find another one, would rather deal with a BR player that can at least stream on one service (netflix and Amazon Prime no longer work right on it, so I’m stuck with VUDU. and it only plays SOME DVD’s) Finding a new one that does what I want is proving to be more difficult than I expected)

Okay, first off, this was my first Blu Ray Player I have ever purchased. True to its description, it plays both Blu Ray discs and regular DVD’s, which was a major selling point with me. Both the video and audio quality are outstanding, which will make super bowl Sunday pass much faster, as I have a movie marathon planned.
One thing the world must know — THE PLAYER DOES NOT INCLUDE A REMOTE.
If you purchase this unit, you will need to also purchase a universal remote control Fortunately they are only about 15-20 bucks, but it’s the principle of the thing.
Otherwise, except for this one thing, I would highly recommend this player. I’m just rather upset, as I could have just paid extra for a newer unit and it probably would have included a remote. But lesson learned.

Netflix will not stream. Extremely disappointed in the product for the price.

Does just what it is made to do. Work well, easy to use. I don’t think the wi-fi and smart part is really of any use, haven’t configured it anyway. I just wanted a dvd/blu-ray player to play my film collection. Remote is a bit cheap and small, but it’s good enough. The player is super small so that is nice.

It was easily installed and I was able to play the DVD’s within ten or fifteen minutes of receiving it.

Excellent unit. Plays all Blu-ray and DVD’s with no issues. Just make sure you don’t lose the remote – if you do, you will have to throw it out as there are no buttons on the unit.
Decently fast loading time (compared to my now-defunct Panasonic BD35!!). The audio is good – comes through an Onkyo 805 and processing is done at the receiver level. Wi-fi connection is an asset.

I ordered this player as an Amazon Warehouse deal along with an Amazon Basics 3ft HDMI to HDMI cable. This player does not include the HDMI to HDMI cable. I connected the player to an 32 inch RCA HD TV/DVD combination. The DVD player stopped working awhile ago but I did not want to waste the TV. Connected the Bluray player to the RCA TV was uneventful as the TV recognized the Bluray player immediately. I played a Bluray movie disc and did not experience any issues. I also tried to play movies in mp4 format which were written onto a BD-R recordable disc but this player does not player written discs which were written via multiple sessions. However, I saved the mp4 format movies onto a portable solid state disc (SSD) and connected the SSD to the player’s USB 2.0 port located next to the power button. The mp4 format movies played without any issues. The player plays many other file formats and the remote control can be used to turn on the TV to which the player is connected and to adjust the volume controls of the TV. Overall, this Bluray player is working as expected.

I am giving it 3 stars instead of 4 because it only last a year- a year and a half. That being said, it was in constant use, so it held up pretty well. It’s wifi streaming was only so, so. As in, Netflix was constantly freezing to the point of having to actually unplug it to get it to unfreeze. It would not even turn off manually. I received this as a gift, so I don’t know where it was purchased. Just recently it has stopped recognizing blu rays and makes a horrible whirring, grinding noise when one is put in it, but plays DVDs just fine. If you are not using this for 3-5 hours a day, everyday; and you don’t really care about streaming show via netflix, hulu etc, then this is a great little player, I refuse to pay the astronomical priced for cable or satellite so I rely heavily of my player to stream my kids’ shows and when at all possible buy the DVDs for them to watch. WHen we are not streaming, or watching videos, we are listening to music (which is not a problem area for this machine).
