As a conductor with a heavy score book, I found my Voyager stand kept sinking down. This add-on works very well to keep it at the desired height. My only complaint is that when you turn it to tighten it in place, if you go too far, it’s loose again. This is different from the way the stand desk attaches to the post. You just have to be careful not to turn it too far, so it does work OK.

I was a little worried about buying this due to some of the negative reviews, but I did not have any of the installation problems that others reported. I am delighted to have a stand that now stays up, and does not move around when I try to mark my music. The only possible issue I might have with it is that the range of tightness is pretty small – it’s like tightish and very tight. That might make it difficult to change the height of the stand. I’ll know more after I’ve lived with it for awhile. It seems like I can change the height, but it does require some effort to make the barrel move. For now I’m just happy that I can have my stand stay up without having to buy a new shaft (which is what I did last time this happened).

This seems like a great idea. We have several music stands that don’t stay up any more. I’m not sure what happens to them, we only use them at church so they don’t get a lot of abuse. But they just slide down. This lock seemed like a great idea.
The problem is you can’t get the lock onto the shaft of the stand. No amount of prying, pushing and shoving will get that lock onto the stand. It’s the exact same size as the shaft, so it just doesn’t fit.
Some black gaffers tape works just fine. It’s a little harder to adjust, but if you don’t need to adjust it, Try some black tape.

I’m using this lock for my Manhasset conductors stand. This piece works and it was easy to install…..that being said, it would be better for Manhasset to include this with their stand other wise many people will be disappointed with it. Without this lock, my stand was not used to its fullest extent because more than one regular sized songbook would make the shaft descend to the bottom. The lock solves all of that but because the poor shaft design on this conductors stand, I probably won’t look at Manhasset again.

My music binder is heavy, and it causes the height of my Manhassett music stand to slowly decrease. A fellow musician told me about this attachment. It’s easy to install, and works well.

BandFile20×2、バイオリン教本×4、トレイ＆メトロノーム、スマホホルダー＆iphone を載せても譜面台が下にずり落ちてくることはありません。
ただ、付ける前に比べると、上下のスライドが少々固くなりました。
付け方は、ほかの方が書いてくださっていますが、譜面台部分を外して、羽根を上にポールの細い方から差し込むだけ。
ねじパーツは譜面台の左右のどちらかなるように固定すると羽根を回しやすいと思います。

The purpose of this small piece of equipment is to prevent the desk of your Manhasset stand from slowly sinking under the weight of a large book or a thick pile of music. It works by increasing the friction on the shiny, inner moveable shaft of the stand as a result of tightening a plastic clutch that’s attached to the outer, black part of the stand. It will work, but only after a manufacturing flaw is corrected.
When I first installed the item on my stand I could hardly get the shiny, inner shaft to pass through the clutch because the fit was so tight. After installing the part completely, it was obvious that adjusting the desk up and down required far too much effort to be practical.
I removed the part and took a look inside the clutch portion, and found two very small plastic bumps that were probably mold marks. They decreased the inner diameter of the clutch just enough to make moving the shaft up and down through the clutch frustratingly difficult. I cut them out carefully with a fine exacto knife, and then used a small curved file to smooth the inner surface. When I reinstalled the unit, it worked fine. I can put a heavy book on the desk without it sinking, and adjust the height of the desk without too much effort.
I’m giving this item a rating of three stars because of the necessity of performing surgery on the piece in order to allow it to work well. Someone without tools, or without the skills to do this kind of detailed modification is going to find this item very difficult to use, and highly frustrating. Manhasset really needs to look at their manufacturing process and make sure that it results in an item that works as advertised.

This was well worth the $11.24. I’ve had the same Manhasset music stand for at least 40 years and another one for at least 20 years. Nothing wrong with them except they could no longer stay up with a big binder or just a few books. Every time I or a student would put 2-3 books on these stands, or even just write on the music, the stand would start to sink. Once I installed the device, I didn’t even have to twist the tightened. It created enough friction to hold the desk from sinking even with my biggest gig binder. Definitely worth the price!

Before you install the Manhassett Shaft Lock it is IMPORTANT that you know that the chrome tube came from the factory with “stickum” on it approximately 5″ below the stand’s desktop. This is the stuff that kept the desktop from sliding down for a long time when you first bought it.
The problem is that “stickum” got tired and doesn’t work well anymore.
You really must remove that stickum before you install the shaft lock. Otherwise, when you tighten the shaft lock it will grab what is left of the stickum, and could get permanently stuck there…. not allowing you to make any further adjustments.
To avoid this, go to Home Depot and buy the smallest tube of Goo Gone (ask them for a solvent that will remove stickum… no kikking) and they’ll find Goo Gone for you.
Put a little Goo Gone on a paper towel and rub it over the tired stickum … et voila, mes amies! C’ est fini! Nice and clean chome shaft!
Next, just follow directions that come with the shaft lock, and go back to tooting your flute!
