Our kayaks have small drain holes through the hull, about 0.6″ dia. So, traditional chains and cable ends wouldn’t fit through. These work like a charm.

I bought these to secure my kayaks to my trailer as a deterrent to thieves. While I know nothing is 100% effective these are very thick cables and very sturdy. They weather well so far in the Florida rains and heat.
I have 3 of these locks so far and the really nice thing is if you buy them in a pack they come keyed the same. That’s really nice so you don’t have to have keys for each lock, just one for all of them.
As you can see by the photo, I run the cable through the scupper hole and around part of the trailer. I make sure it does not place any pressure on the scupper hole.

When I take surf trips up and down the California coast with my two sons, we take a lot of surfboards with us including longboards and short boards. On one recent trip we had 3 longboards and 5 short boards. I have a Chevy Avalanche with racks mounted on the truck bed covers. In the past, we have had to fold down the rear seat and shove all the boards we aren’t using inside the truck so they don’t get stolen. When we overnight somewhere, we also have to take the boards off the rack and stuff them inside the truck/bed. With all the towels, wetsuits, backpacks, etc. in the truck bed, this can be a real puzzle and a pain. I kept looking for a way to lock my surfboards to the rack, but what I found were expensive specialty locks which require special fin bolts or locks that attach to your leash plug or new locking plugs which have to be fiber-glassed into the board. I kept thinking there must be an adjustable cable lock of some sort that I could use and eventually found the Python. It is perfect for my needs. I pull it around the surfboards and the rack, pull it as tight as I can and lock it. I can now leave the boards, particularly the longboards, on the rack when we go out in the water and overnight without worrying about the boards being stolen.
NOTE: because my surf rack is mounted on the truck bed covers, the tails of the surfboards are right up against the rear window of the cab. As a result, they cannot be slid forward while they are locked on the rack. Because of the fins and the Python cable, the boards cannot be slid the opposite direction toward the tailgate either. However, if you had a regular roof rack, a thief could still potentially slide boards out from under the Python cable.

These work great for multiple applications. Build is of good quality. I imagine many will use these for trail cameras, but they’re great strapping almost anything down that requires a lock. Are they defeatable? Sure they are, but in context, these work well. I like the cinch feature where you turn the lock halfway in order to cinch down the cable before you set it to lock. I use this with my travel trailer for multiple purposes and having the same keys on multiple locks makes it that much more convenient. I would recommend.

I bought these to secure my OC-1 canoe to my truck. Here’s what you get: a pair of cable locks and 2 keys. The cable slides through a hole in the locking mechanism which allows you to make the loop as large/small as you need. When you create the size loop you want, it stays in place when you lock the device. The cable itself is covered in durable plastic and is almost 1/2 inches thick (including the plastic coating).
The other end of the cable is secured to the locking mechanism by sliding the cable through an articulating swivel that’s attached to the lock. It’s able to stay in place because that end of the cable has a durable metal cap that’s crimped on. The crimping prevents the cable from going all the way through. When you pull the other end of the cable through the lock, you can’t pull the crimped end out. It’s basically blocked in. I like that it has an articulating arm which allows flexibility.
I’ve left this out in the Hawaii rain and sea spray and haven’t had any problems with corrosion issues. Definitely a great buy!

This is a very clever product! Using it to lock multiple kayaks to roof racks and for securing to a storage rack at a state park. The length and ability to tighten securely around a large item such as a kayak is very nice. The lock itself is a little tricky as the directions aren’t the greatest. The key is to turn the key to the midway position before threading the cable through the lock body. The midway position has a name akin to thread or tighten, don’t recall specifically, however, the lock is 90 miles away and I cannot verify that name. It is between lock and unlock. And we bought two that are keyed the same which is another convenience. I would buy it again.
