It’s very affordable and nice looking. Although I have many fish tanks, I don’t use this for them, I’m using it as as a light alarm clock. It works nicely as it turns on nice and gradually doesn’t blast bright light directly in your eyes at 8 am lol. Conventional light alarm clocks aren’t bright enough, are bulky, non adjustable, ect, but this gives a nice versatile option. Use it with one of NICREWs lights and it’s really nice and bright. Only thing I wish I could change about this product is I’d love a way to turn of the led display at night, it’s a nice soft red but it’s still definitely there and can be a bit annoying sometimes

The product is simple and smaller in size than expected. It has a timed on-off mode (F2) and a dimming mode (F1). The dimming mode only goes from off to the desired brightness level. Unfortunately, this didn’t meet my needs. I have a TopFin 5 Gallon kit. The kit has an very bright LED light which goes to a common power supply with the water filter. The LED is very bright and turning the light on and off seems to shock the fish. The LED has an electronic touch sensitive on/off switch. If the power is disabled, the light needs to be tapped on again. First, the good news for TopFin tank owners – the product does fit into the power supply for the LED. The LED can be dimmed to 47% before it shuts off. The problem is that because of the switch, I needed to dim the lamp to 47% at night and ramp up to 100% during the day. Unfortunately, the dimmer ramps up from 0 only. The night mode cannot be set for another brightness. With the LED I have, this means the lamp will shut off and not turn on again in the morning. If the night mode could be set to 47% the dimmer would work effectively with my LED. I’ll try the Pro version instead.

UPDATE (2): Nicrew customer service sent me a new controller, which has worked perfectly for quite some time now. I bumped my review score back up accordingly. See below for details on my use case.
UPDATE: The LED controller worked PERFECTLY for several weeks. I unplugged it one day to move a cord to tidy up my shelf and then plugged it back in. Now, the display shows all 8’s and doesn’t respond to any button inputs. I read the manual and tried unplugging/plugging it back in several times. It is a dead unit.
The A/C adapter which came with the lights provides 2A/12V (24 watts) which is far below the maximum specifications for this controller. I emailed Nicrew and so far have received a reply which essentially asked me for the information I provided in the initial email to them, so this isn’t looking so great so far on the customer service side.

I purchased this controller for the purpose of setting a day/night cycle for some LED fixtures I installed in a bookshelf. The shelf houses several enclosures for vertebrates and invertebrates. The lights I am using are here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01KQRJCQY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
First things first, this controller IS compatible with the lights in the above link. However, do NOT install the lights’ included remote receiver in-line with this controller. If you reduce the output from the receiver to lower the brightness of the lights, you will affect the controller’s clock and make it run slower. Such was the case when I first installed this light controller, and it was running around 10 minutes behind near the end of the first day, presumably due to the lower output voltage from the receiver. Removing the receiver fixed this issue and the controller’s clock no longer runs slow.
The connector is a 5.5mm OD barrel connector. An adapter is included for another size connector. I’m sure that if your LED lights have a barrel connector, they will be compatible with this kit. Anyway, programming the lights was VERY easy and the directions are simple. I had the programming complete in just a few minutes’ time and sure enough, the lights slowly dimmed to off that night. The next morning, the slowly turned on to full brightness over the course of a few minutes. Neat!
This is very much worth the money. Combined with the lights in the link above and a little bit of double-sided tape, you can very easily outfit a large bookshelf with pre-programmed lighting for small “pets” — and it won’t even look ghetto! Huzzah!

Love this simple but effective ramp controller. Thanks

This timer is good.
Itβs really easy to set up the timer to turn on and off at specific times of the day.
The only issue I have with it is that you canβt adjust the light ramp time. Itβs a simple on/off option that lets you ramp the light brightness upwards from dark or downwards from full brightness. The ramp time is around 10 minutes, but I would like it to be longer. However, this isnβt a reason to dock a star off, since the product never advertised that you could adjust the ramp time.
Overall, this product does its job well.

I am definitly impreased with this timer. It also serves as a built in dimmer. Literally the only thing i dont like about it it if the unit looses power, it looses it time. Your settings will stay saved, but you will have to reset the time. As anoying as it it, I can understand why it happens. There is no built in power supply to maintain clock settings (not to be confused with timer settings). Think of it like this, if you rake the battery out of a clock, the time stoos ticking. Plug the batery back in and you have to reset the time because its no longer correct. The only way to add clock memory function would be an onboard button cell battery, but these are not made that way. Its not the end of the world for me.
I even went an extra step and use one othe these as a dimmer/timer for some LED light stips installed in my kids room. Works amazing. Just make sure you dont exceed the max power input. The raiting is on the back of the unit.
